I did for 18 months, my son was 8 and had problems in his school. It is hard work . I found me and my son did not have the relationship we used to have ,we argued alot we were together 24/7 . My son became very lonely and sad . now hes at a new school which he loves has lots of Friends , best thing is when he comes home and tells me about his day. Things are better than ever between us . I can say from my own experience there were no advantages .

Like the other respondent I was home schooled too. Yes socialisation is a problem. Children have to learn to get on with children as well as adults, but I managed in the end,

So, if you home school find peer groups for him/her. Look up home schooling through Google and also old Yahoo Answers. Do a bit of networking. If you find homeschoolers with similar aged children email them (if they allow it).

Issnot all doom and gloom and it does have advantages. Try if for a bit. Even 2 years will give your child a great start.

Well the advantages are you can get done earlier then schools, you can get out of school for activities. And the disadvantages are you don't have many friends and you won't learn as much than in school. Well one more thing about advantages are in school you can't pay attention very well, but homeschooling you can pay attention alot more. And you can probably get better grades. Also if you live where there is snow usually school will be canceled, but you can do that extra day and learn more than people in school.

The advantage is that your child gets to be a leader and a thinker, instead of a brain dead conforming slave of the state and business. The advantage is you actually get to be with your children, to develop your family. The advantage is you control your schedule, your life. The advantage is that your children won't expect to be spoonfed information and be told what to do with it, they will insatiably seek out knowledge and know what to do with it.

The disadvantage is that you must think for yourself and not wait to be told by society what to do, how to dress, what to think, what to learn. Unless of course you do the fundie christian style 'school at home' in which case you shouldn't even bother.

I've home schooled my youngest three boys for the past 8 years. The advantages? Our Charter program gave us a multitude of classroom and outdoor activities; the network of families in our program has given my kids a huge number of kids to play and socialize with; most of the kids and parents are very intelligent and respectful; it allowed my kids to pursure the things that interest them most; and most importantly, at 15, 16 & 17, they're smart, kind, hard working, respectful and well-behaved.

I didn't notice any disadvantages. I loved being with them all day and they never complained.

I serve on a panel that deals with children and educational issues. One of the biggest issues where a child is a school refuser is how isolated they become. I would therefore suggest that school is not just about education, it's also a social experience where children and young people learn to mix with people they like, have no opinion of or dislike. Children need to learn to get along with all sorts of people and school helps do this. I have yet to meet a child who is taught at home, who was not socially isolated, even in a small way.

You might want to check past posts for complete answers to this question - I've seen some really good ones.

I have homeschooled for 9 years. Advantages are kids who are WAY ahead of their peers in academics, behavior, work ethic, and social abilities.

Disadvantages are that I am already paying for ps through taxes and now am also paying for my kids' books. That is a small price to pay for the tremendous leg up my kids are getting on life.

i was taught at home for 1 year, i did not get on with school at all. i had a place in college when i reached 14. my home tuition was great, it was one on one. at first i thought of it as a joke, but my home tutor just let me go at my own pace, and within a week i learnt alot more with her, than i ever have would have in school. i was taught for 1 hour a day 5 days a week. got on great. highly recommended if a child just cannot seem to get on in school. i should know!

i went to public school as a child .and i felt left out. we were poor so nno one wanted to be my friend .so i found some friends outside of school and they were the druggies.. so i finally grew up had kids of my own and i homeschool my children and they have been to public school before and they say they never wanna go back. i am so much closer to my children now, and it is so rewarding when you 1st grader is learning to multpily and write cursive ,when all the other kids his age are learning to add...and we do outside socialization at church and baseball in the summer, so there can be plenty of socialiZattion also.. it is a great thing you can do for your children..

Parents who do not teach their child at home are bad parents. Where did your child learn to walk and talk?
