I am thinking of starting the RCIA classes in a few weeks and through research, research has told me to do more research. I need some good books to read. If anyone could give me some titles I would really appreciate it. Preferably something that is easy to understand. Religion is confusing enough as it is, right?

Congrats.

First of you should look into getting a Catholic Bible, and a Catechism. The two together should cost you about 20 - 30 bucks on Amazon. The Compendium to the Catechism is written more towards the average reader, and is a lot easier to understand, but covers the same content as the Catechism. It is in question and answer format. If you don't mind reading online and printing what you need, then you can go here :

Bible - http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/

Catachesim - http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm

Compendium - http://www.vatican.va/archive/compendium_ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-ccc_en.html

You may also want to read some of Scott Hahns books. He is a convert who has a thelogy degree and is now a theology professor at the University of Steubenville. Here are some of the titles of his books, and what subject they are one:

Title - Topic

The Lamb's Supper - Eucharist
Haily Holy Queen - Mary
Lord Have Mercy - Confession
Scripture Matters - Bible
Swear To God - Sacraments

Rome Sweet Home His Conversion Story

If you are looking for some Church History a couple of good ones are

The Mass of the Early Christians - Mike Aqualina
The Fathers of the Chuch - Mike Aqualina
Triumph: The Power and Glory of the Catholic Church H.W. Crocker III

I could go on and on. The writings of the early church father's is a great place to go to find more information. If you want more just let me know.

I really can't recommend books that someone has not all ready mentioned. But the link below is for THE BEST radio station. Spirit FM operated by the Diocese of St. Pete. FL and you can listen on line. I was confirmed in 2005 and I honestly don't think I would have converted if it were not for everything I learned from these guys. They give so much really down to earth practical information.

And did I mention the MUSIC? It is not churchy music at all. It is all really modern. Their is a christian version of just about every genre (within reason) and they play it all there. There are a lot of Christian radio stations in central FL. This is what I listened to before I converted just because the music was so good.

I sound like a Spirit FM cheerleader don't I? I don't live in FL any more and just really miss it. So far I have not found anything like these guys.

And I don't know how much technical theological information I can give you (I'm not Mother Teresa, heck I'm not even Bono) but if you get stuck or need help feel free to e-mail me. RCIA is still fairly fresh in my brain.

Also, if you have access to an Adoration Chapel, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT, USE IT. If you don't know what an Adoration Chapel is, it is too much to get into here but do yourself a favor and don't go through RCIA without asking and getting answers about Adoration Chapels. It won't be wasted time, I promise.

Check out more than one religion - please - find the one that follows your beliefs. Before you join any church, watch the people you know from that church. Do they follow God's teachings? Are they mostly hypocrites? Do they treat others and themselves (their own bodies) with respect and love? Do they harbor hatreds fro ANY other group of people or persons in particular?
Who do you want to be like? To follow in their footsteps?
I think everyone should follow their own beliefs and not just "join" the church to join the crowd?

First of all God Bless you and welcome home!!! I'm so happy for you!!! I heard of a good book called Jesus, The Catechism and Me by Fr.Levis - although the book is for young adults. Try to read the Catechism, listen to relevant radio and pray often. Your welcome to visit my site christthecenterofyourlife.blogspot.com and may God Bless you!!
