I know I mean seriously! I totaly agree with you! I have owned pits all my life and they have been the best dogs ever! It really gives me a sence of protection having them in my house. They are really loving and sweet if you treat them right. People don't like them cause they think they are given such a bad rep by the press but most of the times its not even pitbulls! They're other "bull" type breeds that just because these breeds look like pits people assume they are hence bad rep. Pitbulls are the most loyal, sweet, and protective dogs ever! My pit is with me at my computer right now as I'm writing this message. She just sits with me and gives me love. People are so scared of them but frankly I'm scared of German Shephard's more. I mean my pitbull is afraid of blowing bubbles! She's a big baby! People should just grow up and learn more about the breed before they go dissing it! The world needs more people like you and me to help pitbulls everywhere! From me and Sammy my pit.

Well the fact is, alot of people ignore other dogs that attack people and when they hear about a Pit Bull attacking they go off and start to blame the owners. I know that some owners it is there fault, but Pit Bulls in more recent years have been breed to fight and those are taken into there genes which makes them more aggressive each time espeically if both parents were fighting dogs. Personally I think Pit bulls are very sweet but can be provoked easily more then other breeds, my dog is part pit but only a small amount. Give you're pit bulls hugs for me hehe I love dogs to much.

The reason pit bulls have a bad name is because almost every other week you read a story on CNN's home page or on the news that a pit bull has killed or attacked someone for no good reason. You hear about pit bulls attacking and killing people more than any other dog. I live in Chicago, and there was a 10 year-old boy who was attacked by 3 pit bulls in the suburbs last year and it was all over the Chicago Tribune. The boy knocked on his neighbor's door to call a friend to come out, and 3 pit bulls jumped a fence and attacked him for no reason. They almost killed him and he has had about 12 surgeries because he lost so much tissue and muscle. They literally ripped muscle from his body. He still has trouble walking and can barely get up and down stairs. Also, just last week (January 2007) on CNN's web site there was a story about a 5 year old girl who was killed by her own family's pit bull. I highly doubt the 5 year old child did something to deserve to be killed by a dog. Just last week my husband and I went jogging, and our neighbor's pit bull started really aggressively barking at us and jumping. The neighbor apologized to us but I will never go by their house again. They are born and bred to attack, so why would you want to live with a time bomb about to explode?

This is the REAL reason Pit Bulls have a bad rep! These kids are antaganizing this dog for NO reason and think it's funny but when he retaliates, guess who gets KILLED... oh, i mean "PUT TO SLEEP".

Many people see the negligence that many owners display with their Bullies. They make them monsters or treat them in a manner that scares the crap out of them so the only thing they can do is retaliate. I have 3 Am.Staffies *Same things as a Pit* and they are ALL like humans!
My oldest one... Keke a blue-fawn 2 y/o is the sweetest thing EVER! I can actually take food out of her mouth while she's eating, when I'm playing with her I can pull her tail and she doesn't get mad, she's awesome! And my other 2 are from her litter she dropped about 6 months ago! They are JUST like her!
Another example of her temperment is when we went to sell the rest of her litter. I know from my own experience that people want to see the sire and dame when they purchase pups. Our sire wasn't available, but we had her up there. The customers didn't even realize she was under the table and their kids were playing with her. I mean pulling her ears, kissing her and she was just smiling and licking the kids.
Just dont try to break in our home, They dont like intruders. If they aren't introduced by either me or my boyfriend upon entering my home, you're NOT welcomed! LOL!!
But to answer your question a lot better, these people dont realize ANY dog is capable of being a killing machine. Even down to the beloved Pomeranians! The owner is a fault for whatever the dog does. No if's, and's, nor but's about it.

That's the exact reason, because people fight them. Another problem is some dogs can be rehabilitated after being abused and pitbulls can't so they will become agressive. I have met many pit bulls and think they are great dogs. What people don't realize is Chows are nippy, St. Bernards will turn on their masters, and other dogs can be abused into being aggressive. Pitbulls just hit the headlines a few times and that's why. It's really sad that a dog has to suffer a bad name when the blame should be placed on the sickos who fight the dogs.

Pit Bulls are loving and caring dogs. People don't understand that in the past this dog was bred to fight with dogs, not with humans. There were cases when pit bulls attact humans, but in most of the cases the dog was provoced. In South Africa the Pit Bulls are only ninth on the list of dangerous dogs. Rotty, Dobberman, Alsasions is in the top 5 for attacks on humans.

I know seriously. I own 3 pits and they are awesome dogs! Nevvver ever had a problem with them. The people who fight them are terrible they give them a bad rep. You only hear about the Pit Bulls attacking people, what about rottwilers or other dogs...They are all great dogs it just depends on the owner and how they are raised. And people say its in their blood....what about serial killers is that in thier blood to..? Pit bulls are such great dogs depending on the raising of them. I can understand that its sad to see any child or person get attacked for taht matter, but its not just pit bulls that are bad dogs..

What Harley Drive says is partially true, but APBTs do not have the strongest bite force. The Kangal, Mastiff, Rottweiler, American Bulldog and German Shepherd all have a stronger bite force than the APBT. I assume you are talking about PETA. The truth behind PETA is that they would love nothing more than for humans to bow down to animals. They are vying for human extinction. I know this sounds a bit extreme, but I have done enough research on both PETA and Ingrid Newkirk to know. Newkirk has also commented on her hatred for human beings. The question is: Why is she still here if she thinks humans are the biggest blight on the planet? Why do all of these PETA members have families? I do think that one of the posters above me is correct. So-called animal rights activists are going to keep adding dogs to their list until there are no breeds eligible to own. I can't tell you why APBTs are so hated by PETA and others, but you have to remember that our beloved Dobermans once faced this too. All of the rumors you hear about APBTs were once used against Dobermans such as the lock jaw and the brain swelling. It is not true for either breed. If they truly were animal rights activists, they would be educating the public about APBTs not spreading lies. An APBT can be just as great a dog as a Golden Retriever. I was a bather at PetSmart for a while and we LOVED seeing an APBT come in because we knew we were in for an easy grooming. When people brought in their lap dogs and their "family-friendly" breeds, we groaned because THOSE are the biters. Animal rights activists are a bunch of loonies who shouldn't be allowed to own dogs of their own. The see their dogs as their equals. PETA just recently posted a blog that says calling your animal your "pet" is derogatory. According to PETA, they should never be called such a thing! Their acceptable term is "companion". If none of this convinces you that they are just nuts and should be shunned, then I don't know what will. Type in "10 things you didn't know about PETA" into your search engine. You will be mortified. They are way off the mark and should not be listened to. Ignore what they say about APBTs because we all know how wonderful they really are.

Pit bulls give themselves a bad name. Everytime you hear of someone getting attacked or mauled by a dog the breed is usually a pit bull. They are bred to be fighters and it's in their blood. You say you have never had a problem but I wouldn't turn my back on them.

I do own a pit bull who is a great dog - but understand that many people do not like them in the same way many people do not like rottys or dobermans. They have the persona of being mean and I believe it is because they can not take the pressure or stress that other laid back dogs can so they act out. I have nothing against them but when you see child after child killed by that one breed you do have to wonder why.....
