When I read some peoples answers to others question I must ask myself what is this person thinking. I mean some people ask good questions to make just and good decisions on topics such as child care and some on here feel it needed and funny to berate a person for doing just that. I think instead of resorting to name calling or being annoying we need to encourage others and offer them sound moral advice when it is warranted. Am I the only one who feels this way.

I agree. For some who don't have the courage to be mean IN PERSON to honest folks, the internet is a perfect vehicle to be childish. Too bad they don't realize it STILL shows what kind of person they really are.

I know what you mean but compared to other places I've been to on the net (like message boards and stuff), this place has nice people for the most part. Sometimes I see ignorant questions and some are very offensive but some of them are hilarious. As far as mean or ignorant answers go, yes I've seen some but not that many. Maybe I just don't happen to click on the questions where the mean people are at lol
You also have to remember that a lot of people that use this site are probably sort of immature and just looking to get a rise out of people.

Hello

No you are not alone in that philosophy!! Even Confucius said something to the effect of

Ask a question ....feel dumb for 5 minutes. Don't ask the question and be dumb for life.

Some people just feel it necessary to add negative comments on subjects that they feel strongly about or are knowledgeable about.

However to play devils advocate so to speak......I do also feel that some people tend to use boards like these to put questions on that they know will get peoples negative reactions.

Keep up the open mind!

Mostly I agree with you, if you can't give an helpful answer don't bother to answer. But some questions are really so stupid or the questioner seems so arrogant or ignorant it's irresistable to give what might be considered a less than helpful response. Everybody who asks a question knows they are taking that risk. It's easy to ignore the answers you don't want to read.

Well, one factor, I suspect, is that a forum on etiquette not only attracts people who want to improve their manners, but also the exact opposite. Their rude blather is intended to express their contempt for the whole idea of etiquette.

That said, I have this response to one of the comments above. There's no excuse for being rude. Ever. Not even when someone says something stupid. Not even when they say something rude. There is always a polite way to speak your mind, in any situation.

I make my answers based on the questions. Only the most ridiculous or obnoxious questions receive a mocking response.

And am I in person the same as I am on here? Most definitely.
