As others have already said, karma carries over from past lives. It isn't just a "this life only" thing.

It's also entirely possible that someone has directed bad energy in the general direction of a person - not even necessarily right at them, just in their general direction, like towards the business complex where they work - and that person is just kind of getting lost in the cross-fire, so to speak. Like a pebble, energy has a ripple effect. The ripples get bigger the farther out they travel. That's why there's the threefold law: what you send out will come back threefold.

Karma can be accumulated from past lives, but sometimes it's just coincidence. Not everything "bad" that happens is karma. As agents of free will, we're susceptible to the free will of others too. In the spiritual sense, "negative" karma is meant to bring enlightenment: all karma is ultimately a positive thing.

Cause and effect... apparently they did something in life or a prior life to have bad things keep happening. You need to study the concept of "karma" in a little bit better detail.

Maybe from a previous life. Could also be that you're a little negative and drawing negativity to you. Or, could just be plain life. Everyone has their ups and downs, although I do notice that some people have more than their share of grief,, while others just coast on thru. Try the positive thinking and maybe things will change for you.

If they really haven't done anything to warrant it, then it won't happen. And if that's not the case, then the only other explanation is that they somehow benefit from the troubles in their life. In short, they are personally creating the reality that they are experiencing.

Bad karma can be the result of actions commited in past lives. It doesn't sound like you are very well informed on the subject.

The only thing I can think of, which is a part of my personal experience/beliefs....is that he person has been crossed...or "cursed" so to speak. There is a way to get uncrossed....here is some info...

From www.luckymojo.com Cat Yronwode.....

HAVE YOU REALLY BEEN
JINXED, CURSED, CROSSED, OR HEXED?
Not everyone who believes him or herself to be jinxed really suffers from that condition. Sometimes people believe that they have been crossed or cursed, but they have not been. They may be depressed, mentally ill, or physically ill and have wrongly decided that an enemy is the cause of their suffering. However, magical curses do exist, and their effects on their victims can be devastating. One way to diagnose your consdition is to get a reading from a reputable psychic or spiritual worker. Another way is to diagnose yourself through some means of divination, such as card reading or the use of a pendulum.

If you have an enemy who practices hoodoo rootwork, you can be pretty sure that something is being worked against you, of course, but if you have been having bad luck for a long time or are suffering from an unnatural illness and you have no known enemy and no one has ever openly declared themselves against you, you may have been crossed or jinxed, or someone may have put roots on you. You may not know who did it...but you may suspect and even be able to remember how it was done.

One common way to cross someone is to sprinkle Crossing Powder, Hot Foot Powder, or Goofer Dust across their trackway or doorstep, or dress their socks or shoes. I have even heard of women who will dress their own privates so that a man will drag himself in it and lose his nature or jinx up his love life.

Another way to lay a trick or fix a person is to get something personal of theirs and stop it up in a bottle with roots and nails, pins, or needles. Your hair may have been gotten this way, or a piece of your clothing, or your personal concerns. This trick may have been done to you by an enemy to control you, dominate you, or get revenge on you by destroying your happiness in love and money matters.

If you want to undo this sort of work, it helps to know who put the jinx on you so you can call their name back at them, but even if you don't know who did it or how it was done, there are things you can do to take off the jinx.

If a jinx has actually been placed, it may take the form of a buried or hidden object such as a bottle spell, mojo bag, or powders that have been sprinkled. Check around your home and see if you can find something that anyone could have secretly put down to jinx you, like burying something in your front yard. This object must be removed and destroyed. Spiritual workers may call a spirit to help them and gifted readers will just "see" where the buried object can be found. If you find something, like a bottle with personal effects, roots, or hairs in it, dig it up and burn it or throw it away in running water. Even if you can't find such a thing, you may have been fixed with some mess sprinkled on your food or on your shoes.

If the trick cannot be found (for instance, if the perpetrator keeps a bottle spell hidden in his or her home and periodically shakes it up to cause trouble), then an uncrossing spell (e.g. a bath, rub-down, etc.) will be worked and may need to be repeated 3 or 9 times -- along with a reversing spell aimed at sending the bad work back onto the perpetrator. The client is also given a protection spell, often a mojo bag, after the final cleansing or jinx-breaking has been worked.

SPIRITUAL BATHS: A TRADITIONAL REMEDY
FOR UNCROSSING, JINX-BREAKING, AND PURIFICATION
To take off a jinx or remove crossed conditions, many people make use of a spiritual bath combined with a simple candle-spell. To perform this work, you will need a spiritual bath preparation made with purifying herbs or an Uncrossing type bath preparation. The hyssop and rue herb baths are things you can make up yourself from hyssop or rue leaves or you can buy ready-made Uncrossing Bath Crystals with hyssop and rue, or -- for a really strong job -- you can use the 13 Herb Spiritual Bath, which contains hyssop, rue, and 11 other Uncrossing herbs. Many folks use 13 packets of 13 Herb Spiritual Bath and take a bath every morning for a total of 13 days to clear away a really bad jinx.

You also need 2 white offertory candles and some Uncrossing Oil to dress them. Burning a packet of Uncrossing Incense while you work is said to increase the efficacy of the job as well.

If you believe that enemies have crossed, jinxed, or hexed you, look up the 37th Psalm. This is the one that begins "Fret not thyself with evil-doers..." If you believe that your bad condition today results even in part from your own bad activities in the past, look up the 51st Psalm as well, where hyssop herb is recommended for purification from sin. If you are not a Christian or a Jew, you can still use these herbs; they are traditional for jinx-breaking, Uncrossing and the removal of sin in any case, and instead of a Psalm, just write down your request in your own words that the jinx be lifted and the one who put it on you be struck down.

To prepare the spiritual bath, you arise before dawn, and either brew up the herbs into a tea and strain the liquid or dissolve the Uncrossing mineral crystals in warm water. Then you recite the 37th Psalm for jinx-breaking or the 51st Psalm for purification (or any Uncrossing spell of your choice) as you pour the bath water over your head. If you are taking the 13 Herb Bath, you pour the water and recite your Psalm 13 times for each morning's bath, 13 days in a row.

When you have finished the spiritual bath, step out of the tub and light the 2 white candles that have been dressed with Uncrossing Oil. Light the Uncrossingincense next. Stand between the candles. Do not dry yourself with a towel -- let the bath water dry on you in the air as the candles burn and smoke yourself in the incense. Recite your Psalm one more time. If you intend to work this spell for the full 13 days, pinch out the candles (don't blow them out) after a few minutes so you can relight them the next day. If you will be doing the spell only for one day, walk away after you recite your Psalm and just let the candles burn until they go out, no matter how long that takes.

CLEANSING YOUR HOME
OF CROSSED CONDITIONS
After taking this bath, some people then use the remaining bath water to wash down their floors and especially the doorstep of the house. Mix the spiritual bath water into a bucket with some Uncrossing Crystals and Chinese Wash to make it even stronger. Wash from the back of the premises to the front. Sweep out the front doorway area while the floor is still wet. Once you are done with the wash water, carry whatever remains out of the house and pour it on the ground outside (not down the drain).

Do this every morning upon awakening -- bathe, pray, light the white candles and incense, then wash down the house -- for 13 days and this will bring you relief from crossed conditions.
