it is a newer phone model and i am not sure if it will work or not. some websites say that it will, but others aren't too sure. I just wanted to be 100% sure when i spend the money to buy the phone. it is also a tri-band phone and i didn't know if that would make a difference with the reception outside of houston. it has a simcard though. any info. will help! thanks a lot!

Yes it will provided it's unlocked. It's a triband phone but the 900/1800 bands are only useful in Europe. The 1900 band is the most common GSM band in the states, although Cingular does have some 850 and 3G coverage now. Here is a map of their 1900MHz coverage. Looks like you're fine around Houston:

Note that with a phone not from Cingular, you will probably have to configure the wireless web, MMS (for picture messaging) and GPRS yourself. Cingular can give you all the settings, and sometimes the stores are willing to program it in for you. It's just something I think you should be aware of if you're bringing in an unlocked phone.
