I don't think you have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). IBS is characerized by the presence of abdominal discomfort or pain associated with disturbed defecation. It can either be constipation or diarrhea. Usually, the symptoms are present for more that 12 weeks (not consecutively) within a year. The symptoms may be relieved by defecation or the onset of the abdominal discomfort is associated with changes in the frequency or character of you stools. With regards to you bowel movement. Normal bowel movement can be considered if you move your bowels daily or even if you only do it 3 times a week. One question is are you taking enough fluids. Its winter so you may not notice that you are taking less fluids because of the cold weather. Have you also notice a change in you diet the past couple of days or weeks. Other than that, increased intake of fibers can help. Fruits and veggies will help. Try to avoid taking a lot of bananas or apples which tend to make you constipate. Try prunes and papayas. If not, you can use some stool softeners. If all else fails, consult you family doctor.

Be sure you have IBS...get a colonoscopy.
Fiber can cause constipation if you don't get enough water!!!!!!
Don't strain to go if you can avoid it that can lead to other problems!
Take a probiotic for regularity.

If there is nothing there for real but you feel like there is than you may be having spasm that make you feel that way...or there may be something else like internal hemorhoid in the way.
Most likely though you just didn't drink enough water with your fiber.
If you are having spasms without there being anything...are you eating enough?
hope that helps.

Sounds like to me your have IBS(Irritable bowel syndrome). Your Dr. would be able to tell you more if you have it and will be able to give you medication to help you if needed. Or a list of foods that are known to aggravate you bowels. I suffer from IBS so I know it how frustrating it can be. GOOD LUCK!!

I would look into stress. You may be preoccupied with the bowel issue almost to the point of obssession. Try more relaxing and less ex-laxing. Good luck!

Have you been drinking enough fluids? You could be dehydrated. For more immediate relief you could try a stool softener (sold at most large drugstore chains).
