Why do you stare at your cat? She might be staring at you for the same reason. Or would you rather she not? But I can't imagine why you wouldn't. Since cats can't communicate with humans cats stare at humans for numerous reasons. 1. For attention, e.g. she wants food, outdoors, affection, kitty litter needs changing or even 2. She's sophisticated 3. She's trying to work out what you are, i.e. My goodness aren't you a huge cat! 4. She likes you.

Ok, I told this to somebody else. Cats have really bad vision. It is very blurry. They can't see details very well, they can however, detect movement extremely well. They have sacrificed one for the other. The reason they are great hunters is because they can detect movement really well. So when a cat stares they are most likely trying to figure out what the hell you when you come into the room or are sitting there and they see movement. They also hear really well and can turn their ears 180 degrees. So sometimes what they are looking at and what they are listening to are not even in the same direction. Hope this helps.

Try this, for fun. While staring back at your cat, blink very slowly. If you cat blinks back at you, you have just exchanged a Kitty Smile.
(Cat eyes are very expressive, and combined with the position of the ears they can relate a huge category of expressions)

If she squints while staring, she's telling you she loves you.
One of my cats would sit on the ladder outside the window over the kitchen sink and watch me while I washed dishes. I loved it. He was outside and could have done anything he wanted but he discovered a way to communicate his connection to me rather participating in neighborhood warfare - he was a mighty battle cat.
Cats are so neat.

Probably not staring cause she wants to be like you but trying to figure out what you are doing. Cats seem to look at humans as if we are but meer pesants and they are masters and so they probably think we are crazy and need some help.

She stares at you because she loves you! It's all about the attachment she's formed with you, and it makes her happy to stare at you.

The question is, why do you even give it the privilege to stare and affect you? I found a squirt gun fixes the problem quite nicely...

She may need more attention from you or it may be her way of telling you she is hungry or just needs loveing on.
