Is swollen lips common in a cold sore?

the sore itself is swollen, but not the entire lips.

Yes, especially the lip the sore is on.

ive heard of the area being swollen but not the full lip.

Don't think so...just tingly and one or two sores that are red-ish. DOn't kiss anyone when you have them. It's highly contagious.
