You shouldn't eat anything thats too hard/crunchy for example crisps or crusty bread. Stay away from fizzy drinks as these can stain your teeth and no chewing gum or toffees.

About the rules: Don't completely follow them. You don't have to never eat a tootsie roll or pretzels again like they tell you to. You can even eat popcorn if you chew it thuroghly enough and clean your braces really well afterwords. My advice is to stay away from REALLY sticky things like swedish fish, bubble gum, wax lips, and jelly beans. But if you go for however long you have braces without eating any of the prohibited stuff, you'll miss out on it when you could've eaten it and been just fine.

Brushing: Under your braces are cleaned very well before getting them on, so those are kept fine. It is around your braces that you must worry about. You may want to brush your teeth a little more with braces, becuase stains could be on your teeth after removal if you neglect them, which is very easy to do. You don't need any special toothbrush or paste for them. However, I would advise you to use the tool that they give you that looks kind of like a pipe cleaner to get whatever food is stuck between your teeth out before brushing. Your toothbrush can get pretty gross without this.

Well, let's see. Carmels, hard nuts (like almonds, not the other kind,) and certain types of candy. Candy u shouldn't have: starbursts, skittles, sugar daddies/babies, maple nut goodies, carmel apples, lollipops (especially tootsie rolls,) gum, popcorn, and sugary sodas. And b sure 2 ask ur dentist/orthodontist if u have any questions. (Also, b sure to 2 cut up ALL fruits and veggies if they r big, so u don't break a bracket or a wire!!!) By the way, I've had braces for 2 years, and I've eaten most of the foods I love, so u'll survive. Plus, I'm getting mine off (hopefully,) Spring 2007!!!

Ive had braces on for 7 months now and you can eat most of the things they tell you not to. I would however recommend you not eating popcorn as its just annoying to get out of your teeth again, and very hard crisps such as pringles as i managed to break a wire eating these. As far as gum is concerned i eat it occasionally and havent had any disasters yet! Cleaning wise it takes longer but you soon get the hang of it and it becomes second nature.

I just got braces about 4 weeks ago. I can't eat chewy stuff, like hard bread or um... like fried chicken. its really annoying, but its hard mostly because my teeth are still sore! My orthodontist gave me a nice long list of no-no's including chips. I still am eating chips!! I almost cried when i read tacos or taquitos.

how sad!

all i remember is not suppossed to chew gum, and like hard candies, and toffee's and really chewy stuff is bad, because it could cause one of your brackets to fall off, and it's a pain in the butt to wait for it to get fixed!

I seem to remember corn on the cob being pretty damned impossible.
