1. Because children know a lot less about the world around them, including things like tact and courtesy, that they are forgiven for venturing into areas that good manners forbid adults from expressing curiousity about.

2. Small children are not as likely to be motivated by malice or a desire to embarass when they ask questions that might be perceived as rude in an adult.

3. Children are self-centered and haven't developed the feelings of compassion and empathy that are supposed to keep adults from doing things that are hurtful or embarrassing to other people. Adults are supposed to behave with compassion and empathy.

4. Children are equal-opportunity in their nosiness and rudeness. They don't exploit social position to deliberately embarass or behave rudely towards others. Adults who ask rude and nosey questions do-- they rarely, if ever, behave rudely or with nosiness towards those who can "punish" them or get even with them for their rudeness or nosiness. Instead, they use their nosiness and rudeness to torment or punish people who can't retaliate.

5. People don't take rudeness or nosiness seriously in children, because they aren't supposed to know better. Adults are.

6. When children behave in ways that are nosey and rude, the adults who are responsible for those children usually try to use the occasion as a "teachable moment." (e.g., "Johnny, how do you think Mrs. Smith felt when you asked her how she got so fat? Do you think it was nice of you to make her feel that way?")

I think when some adults ask too many questions it can sound nosey to some people and that's why it's important to ask a few questions when it comes to being social.

(Not talking about out here because that's what this site is for isn't it?) As for rude what makes asking questions to sound rude? Maybe some people take a person's comment as being rude when that's not what they had meant. I don't know but maybe it may help to read up on etiquette a bit more. Maybe that will help?

You don't want to put the person on the spot but hey even kids can put adults on the spot. I can remember one time when I was younger and I was helping this mother find an outfit that looked good on her and found a few things.

Her son was waiting for her and he says mom let's go. She said just wait a while and then we will go. Finally he gets so impatience that he says ok mom why don't you try out my boots on for size and see how it feel like!

In that short moment we both stopped and looked at each other. I kinda of snickered a bit and so did his mother. Kids are very funny and the things they say are quite cute.

I hope that my story puts a smile on your face. Looking back it still does for me. lol

Adults should know better than to ask a nosy question that is why. Kids are just kids, they're just trying to learn more about people and their environment.

Isn't that the way life is?
As children we are uninformed and are learning about the world around us. When children ask questions, even embarrassing ones, it is forgiven.
As adults we are already 'informed' and can gather information in other ways. When adults ask embarrassing questions, other adults know that the person knows better.

A child is innocent, so it's easy to forgive them. Adults should know better.

I think that people don't love it when children ask personal questions, but they forgive it because children aren't expected to understand the social mores against asking inappropriate questions.

Because when you are a child you don't know right from wrong and when you are older you know not wear to put your nose and where it is acceptable!
