My son is three years old and keeps messing with his penis, everytime he is naked he touches and squeezes it and even swings it. I have even caught him with is out of his pants messign with it while watching tv. Since he is now in underwear he always holds and squeezes it through the underwear. I asked him why he keeps messing with it and he says he don't know and i know kids are curious but i wonder is it normal for him to be messing with it so much. And if i should tell him not to, i dont want to encourage his penis playing by not saying anything when he does it.

This is totally normal behavor and nothing to worry about. When my son got to that stage we just explained about "private"parts being touched only in private and it worked fine.

Some people and their opinions. I highly doubt that he has learned this from his dad!

I have four boys and I can tell you that this is absolutely NORMAL behavior. I wouldn't shed any light upon it as it is completely normal. If you do make a fuss or bring attention to it, then you will probably have a problem (he will or might do it more often for the attention). As some children find it exciting that we are bothered by some behaviors we ask them NOT to do, they seem to do what ever we are asking them not to even more than before!

Right now, he is exploring himself and is not paying "attention" to it so to say. I have found that this is a phase and a phase that passes by rather quickly believe it of not.

From what I can read into, this is something he is doing while at home, not in public. Seeing so, this isn't anything that needs correcting.

If you are really uneasy about it, I would advise you to go talk to his pediatrician. His doctor is absolutely the best advisor, this you already know, I'm sure. It is absolutely normal... Do not worry.

It's completely normal. As he grows up, you will find that men have an unnatural affinity for their penis.

Hell, I know the thing I love to do is come home after a long hard day of work, flop my shoes off, put my feet on the end table, drink a coke and stick my hand in my pants and make sure that he is still there.

Ok, maybe an exaggeration but it is completely normal. Kids experiment - my daughter was always sticking her hand on and around her "monkey" as she called it. She has grown out of it, just like your son will.

Nothing to worry about - and if he doesn't, just call him Al Bundy.

I had to ask a guy friend of mine the same questions when my son did this. My son started doing this at about 2-2 1/2 and he's 4 1/2 now and still does it- it's normal.

My daughter is 4 and she is busy with her sex since she was 1,5 years old.
Is something natural, kids are curious as you said and they try to find out what makes them feel something different. They experiment with the mouth, the hands, and everything you can imagine. Why not with their sex?
I believe that since my daughter already goes to the kindergarten, is time that she learns what can be done in private and what can be done alone. So if I see her busy, I ask her to wait till mom is gone, or to stop. Little by little she is learning the rules of the game. Is not forbidden, nothing wrong, but to keep in private.
Do not worry, your boy is perfectly normal. Of course he has no answer to your question, nothing wrong will happen to him, and if another person can watch him will understand unless very square minded.
Enjoy the freedom of your child, we are spending together with them the most pure years of their life.

Okay here is the answer that I learned from a seminar about children and their sexuality.....
He is just curious he has found something on his body and he has figured out that if he rubs and touches it that it feels good. Here are some suggestions for how to help you teach him about when and where are the right time:
First do NOT tell him he has to stop this will only make him feel dirty and ashamed and like he did something wrong and let's face it...it's something most adults do (touch themselves)
Second explain to him that while it is okay for him to do this it is not okay for him to do it in front of others tell him that those are private parts and that he wouldn't want anyone to see them. Teach him that if he decides he wants to do this that he needs to do this in the privacy of his room or the bathroom where he will be alone and you guys won't see his privates. Also tell him that just like when he goes to the bathroom he needs to wash his hands when he is done with soap and that way he won't spread yucky germs. My son went thru this as well and I almost died of embarrassment when the inlaws came over and he pulled it out right in front of everyone and started tugging on it. He didn't mean to offend anyone and everyone just smiled but it still embarrassed me this way he will know that it is okay but that he needs to not do it in front of everyone and that there are places where you will allow it to happen. Children's sexuality is something that freaks a lot of people out but this is just the facts....hope it helps and good luck!

It's normal. Think of it this way. Kids love to play with stuff. And he's got this little squishy "toy" dangling from himself. Perfect entertainment for fidgeters and hyper little boys. Don't stress over it. He'll grow out of it. And if not, then when he's 4 or 5 (before school starts) have a talk with him about how that's a private part of him and he shouldn't show it or touch it in front of people.

The nerve endings in genitals that stimulate adults are present even in young children. Try not to make a big deal about him touching himself when he's naked as he simply knows it as feeling good. Making him feel bad or guilty may have negative consequences later on. Of course, persuade him not to touch himself in public as it is for "alone time" like having a bath or going on the potty. You might use this opportunity to talk about how only he is allowed to touch himself there, with the exception of someone helping him to wash or wipe.

Perfectly normal.....even us grown men enjoy doing it to tell you the truth and I don't mean it in a perverted way. If he does'nt grow out if it in the next year or two just talk to him and explain that it's bad manners to do certain things like that, and picking his nose, and farting, etc in public. The reason I would recomend you to acompany the "penis talk" with all the other things I mentioned is so that he won't misenterpret the message and think that his private parts are something dirty or bad.

My nephew did the same things and more, I know its funny but dont laugh at him or make it an issue at all. When you see him doing it call him to you and have him do something else with his hands all of a sudden or have him pick up something on the floor- just try to take his mind off of what he's doing and onto something else, if it doesn't change then you'll just have to wait until he grows out of it, what about pants. If he's wearing pants maybe he wont think about it as much....

He will grow out of it. Now might be a good time to start teaching him the basics of modesty and what shouldn't be done in front of other people, though. I'm sure that you wouldn't want friends over and then him "whip it out" in front of your company. At his age, shame isn't an issue. Try to teach him that it's inappropriate to do in front of others. Telling a child not to do something because it's naughty is almost a guarantee that they'll do it.
