I am not a fan of them, they can be very temperamental.
You obviously know very little about them so I would suggest you drop the plans until you know much more about them!;

I really don't recommend getting a wolfdog. Wolves are not pets -- they are wild animals. It depends, too, how much wolf is in a hybrid. A half dog/half wolf hybrid will display a lot of wolf characteristics, while a wolfdog with very little wolf may act more like a dog.

Wolfdogs seem to have no obligation to be loyal to humans. They may tolerate you, but they won't be your buddy. They are not obedient, and they have an extremely high prey drive, meaning they'll kill cats and other animals.

If you want a dog, do some research. Then if you decide after lots of research that you want to own a dog, check out your local animal shelter and ask for advice from the staff.

Bad idea. Wolf dogs do have wolf in them, and the rescues that do take in wolf dogs are overflowing with unadoptable dogs. They do NOT make good pets. Besides the fact that hot weather wouldn't be good, the dog would be a mistake.

Wolves aren't protective of you. They'd rather run from trouble. They are skittish, not calm at all. Some are very unpredictable. They are super difficult to house train and are destructive. Most people with wolf dogs can't leave them with someone else because they are dangerous. That means no vacations, no overnight trips.

Think hard before you do this.

Good for you trying to research this before actually bringing the dog into your home.
The actual term for the dog you are describing is Wolf Hybrid, and yes, they are part wolf, part domesticated dog. This can pose some problems, since domesticated dogs have multiple generations of breeding & handling behind them to help diminish some of their instincts, whereas a wolf may act out of pure instinct in a way completely different from your typical pooch.
As such, be careful when socializing this breed of dog, so that the encounters are positive and result in good outcomes. It is important to socialize your dog to different experiences, other dogs & children, but talk to the breeder before you approach this with a wolf hybrid, as they may have insight in different trainers & techniques.
As for faithfullness, that is one of the traits that originally encouraged man to domesticate wolves into dogs to begin with, but every animal is different. Some may bond with only one person strongly, others may greet everyone at the door with a big slobbery kiss!
Hot weather is always a concern, no matter the breed. Talk with breeders of the wolf hybrids, as well as the breeds they will be crossing with. Similar breeds can offer insight as well, such as chowchow, huskie & malamute. Good luck in your research & I hope you get the right dog for you, whether wolf hybrid or a different breed!

Wolf Hybrids, are half dog and half wolf. Wolves are wild animals!!! Getting one if their even legal in your state, is a very bad idea. I would personally, never take that kind of chance, in fear of it attacking me, or one of my family members, other people, or animals. They are very dangerous! There are so many other breeds you can choose from, that need good, loving homes. Go to your local shelter, and I'm positive that you will fall in love with one or more of the dogs there. Rescue one of them instead, of buying A Wolf Hybrid.

Wolves 1/2 breed or not are skittish and can be dangerous.
Faithful NO. 1 step away from wild.

You want faithful get a lab.

The other thing most dogs save the chi-hua-hua are adapted for colder climates, I'd not subject a dog to the heat like that.

I have a purebred wold, and a wolf hybrid. (A wolf Hybrid is part wolf, mine is a wolf X alaskan malamute) They are great dogs but require VERY CAREFUL training. Since they are wild they will go after small animals like rabbits, squirels, etc. I live in Minnesota, US and it's very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer. My wolves are fine in the summer but you have to make sure they don't get overheated. I spray them with a hose a lot, so they stay cool. Also make sure they have some sort of shelter, or shade.

Yes they actually can be part wolf. Im not sure if they make good pets or not,but if i said they didnt which i wouldnt because not all of them are bad pets. Like people say chihuahuas are mean. well my chihuahua is the nicest thing you will ever meet. Give it a chance at your home. If it doesnt work out keep trying. Good Luck. P.S. try taking obedience classes and try and find out as much as you can about the breed before you get it.

PLEASE, at least, research them before attempting to get one. There are sooo many owners/breeders scamming people (you'll probably end up w/a wolf looking *dog*), but should you really come across one, know what you're getting into and everything required of you. They're not for everyone, if even anyone. A friend of mine is involved w/rescue...most end up in such places. Also, they're known as "wolfdogs". There's no such thing as a dog/wolf "hybrid"...they're the same species, canis lupus. Hybrids are the cross between two different species.

I read a story at the library about a man who was all into wolf dogs. He said they were very destructive. The man said he would buy junk couches for them to destroy. Check out the webs and do some major reseach. Good luck!

I was just reading on these today. Most of them do not make good pets due to the wild instincts they have in them. They will adapt to the heat as long as they ahve plenty of water and a nice shady spot. I would recommend doing a little more research on these types of dogs because they have been known to attack and they do need a lot of room to roam.
