If it's starting to discolor then it probably needed a root canal a long time ago. Go ask your dentist. The nerve probably died and the tooth may have to be removed.

Dear Mad Hatter, I agree as you have an appointment with the dentist make sure you mention that tooth, there are many, many reasons for your symptoms some more serious than others, these being decay in the tooth, hairline fracture in the enamel of the tooth, even gum problem rather than a tooth problem. Have you got your wisdom teeth? if not this is another problem, the pain could be caused by the tooth erupting so chewing will hurt a little bit. I dont think it is a serious problem, if you have not had a cavity in 25yrs congratualtions and well done, you should be very proud of this. Don't worry, I'm sure your dentist will say the same thing, even if it is a small cavity. Good luck

The sensitivity isn't CAUSING it---it's a result of the same problem that is discoloring the tooth. It could be an abscess or a dying root. Did you ever injure this tooth (get hit in the mouth, for instance)? You should see a dentist right away.

It is not the sensitivity that cause the discoloration of the tooth. It can be an infection. The enamel of the tooth broke and made the tooth sensitive.
See a dentist.

Nope tea coffee and coke as well as the old fav smoking, if it's a single tooth then it's probably decay which if it's deep enough will cause the sensitivity - Dentist time for you I am afraid

It's the other way around. The discoloration is probably from a cavity, which is causing the sensitivity. See the dentist.

If your tooth is sensitive and starting to discolol it could mean that your tooth is dead. You will either need to pull it out or get a root canal.

It's probably decay within the tooth. You need to get it fixed before its too late or you will have to have a new one put in. Usually if it hurts, its a cavity or decay of some kind.

No, but the cause of the sensitivity and the discoloration is probably the same. Schedule an appointment!
