skateboard and play football. my mom thinks both are dangerous and "unlady like". i think skateboarding is cool and i would like to learn how to ride one. for the football part, i'm not talking about playing on a team, just in the backyard with my brother and cousins (who all happen to be boys). i've gotten my glasses twisted playing with them, so now i get in trouble if we play tackle. just tossing a football around a two hand touch is alright with her though (even though the guys would rather tackle). so should i just stick to playstation skateboarding and 2 hand touch, or go for the real deal.

LOL! I was a tomboy all my life, wrestling with the boys, climbing trees, etc. We didn't have skateboards, but I'm sure I'd have been on them if we did (OK, so I'm ANCIENT!). Go for it, but try to find a way to do it without getting your mom angry. Try discussing with her how important exercise is for a growing body, to build good muscles and bones! Oh, and I might stay away from the boys -- depending on how old you and they are and the REAL reason they want to tackle you! LOL!

All sports are inherently dangerous, but you can take precautions to lower your chances of getting hurt. Show your mother that you are willing to take her concerns seriously: promise to always wear a helmet and knee/elbowpads when skateboarding, and keep to 2-hand-touch football.

Are you cousins older or bigger than you? Boys tend to play rough, and even a boy your own age could still be bigger and stronger than you. Compromise with them - they can tackle each other, but only a 2-hand touch for you (this evens out because you don't have to tackle them, and they will have to hurry to get away from your 2-handed touch). If you're really serious about tackle football, you should be wearing a helmet and protective gear, as should the boys.

As for "ladylike", well, being a lady has far more to do with your character and how to treat other people, than how you cross your legs or wear a skirt. Show your mom that you can excel at sports, be a good person, and still be polite and genteel when the situation calls for it.

No, there's nothing wrong with it. One of the biggest problems in the world today is that people are starting to live their lives in the "virtual world" of TV and video games and not in the real world. As a result, obesity is catching up to smoking as the leading preventable cause of death. I think it's great that you want to be active and I personally would much rather date someone like you than some couch potato who can't drag herself away from the TV long enough to do anything fun (been there, done that). Just be sure to wear a helmet and pads, especially when you're skateboarding. Playing it safe doesn't make it any less fun, and it might save your life.

Depending on how old you and the boys are and how rough you all get, you could get hurt playing tackle football. Of course, so could they, but you might be at greater risk.

Secondly, it's always good to listen to your mom - even if you disagree. Make you case, but still listen.

Skateboarding, being a non-human-contact sport is probably not too dangerous if you have all the right gear. But, ladylike, it is not.

But, it sounds like you aren't old enough to be a lady anyway. Maybe you should finish up being a girl first.

As a matter of a fact i dont think its its unlady like its pretty cool. All the people who say its unlady like is a plastic popular girl who thinks she i better than everyone else. And Skateboarding is cool. So is football, you shouldnt be put down by somebody if u like something and some1 else doesnt...u should just be ur self

Enjoy being a tomboy they make the best "Lady's" when they grow up. However if the boys are a lot bigger than you then touch- i/o tackle is safer for you all. I would suggest that you play without glasses if possible. they can be dangerous to you and others as can jewelry. If you absolutely have to wear glasses consider wearing safety goggles over them. Now go and have fun (all parent's tend to be over protective).

The most successful women are women who can interact in any situation. Depending on how old you are You should do what you feel most comfortable. Ask your mom why she is concerned. She may have valid reasons, and if you are open to listen without judging her response whether you agree or not maybe you to can come up with a solution. There are womens flag football teams ect... Many colleges offer full ride scholarships to girls for field hocky ice hockey etc...Study

hmmm i dont really think you would want to mess up your glasses again. i mean, 2 hand touch is just like regular football except you dont tackle. maybe u should like not wear glasses while playing football (unless u desperately need them) if you really want to playing tackle football. if that is the case, get contacts. and for skateboarding i think you should go for the real deal. skateboaring is great exercise. playstation skateboarding is usually for people who like to skateboard but are too lazy to go do it for real.

No it isn't wrong. If you can do it and want to do it there shouldn't be anything stopping you from it. Just remember you are in primarily a boys sport and it would be very easy for guys to get a feel in and you won't be able to complane. I know a few girls that are on a wrestling team and that is the top thing that bothers them, but they do it because they enjoy the sport.
