I had 4 double impacted wisdom teeth removed about 6 years ago. The pain meds prescribed was Tylenol 3 (has codeine). It can make you feel very nauseated even if you eat. If you are allergic to codeine tell your dentist before the operation because you won't be able to talk afterwards. And make sure you have someone to drive you home because you'll be in too much pain and too heavily medicated.
As for the diet, your dentist will give you a sheet of detailed instructions telling you what to do and how to care for yourself. In my case it was very soft foods and liquids only for nearly 2 weeks. On your way home get yourself a frosty from Wendy's and eat it with a spoon. The extreme cold will help numb the pain as the medication wears off.
At home you can eat anything that is soft or liquid. Ice cream, jello, mashed potatoes, pudding, refried beans, soup without veggies, etc. You can use crackers in your soup but you need to let them get a little soggy before eating the soup.

Soups, mashed potatos, pudding and jello are all great. I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth pulled recently and was able to eat pasta and other soft "normal" foods the next day. It probably won't be as bad as you think.

they make these drinks called boost. i had 4 wisdom teeth pulled out (2 were impacted). the drinks have protein and other vitamins. i promise you will not want to eat any real food as you will be bleeding. they make the drink in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc. check them out they're good. and when you stop bleeding you'll really like mashed potatoes and jello.
good luck.

Chicken noodle soup(warm), broth(warm), yougurt, Jamba Juice, blended shakes, jello.....soft things that aren't too hot or too cold. It's tough & you'll be in pain. Make sure you eat something though because you'll start to throw up if you take the pain meds with no food. Good luck!!

Whatever the dentist says you can have. It's likely to be soup and jello.
