WHEN do *you* call the vet?
Can *you* tell a "boo-boo" from ARTERIAL SPURT?
How often can your dog vomit w/out your freaking out?
How can you tell if your dog is DEHYDRATED?
Can *you* give your dog it's meds? Pill &/or liquid?
Do *you* try "home-remedies" w/NO KNOWLEGE of cause OR treatment of the problem?
Do *you* run around like the proverbial HEADLESS CHICKEN? OR....are you OBLIVIOUS to a crisis?
How many of *YOU* are calm & sensible?(LMAO-*had* to ask)?

I think I'm pretty good and making the call when my dogs needs to see a vet and when I feel I can handle the problem on my own. I have never taken a dog to the vet for a problem that I could handle on my own. I am very calm and sensible.I do know when the dog needs a vet or if it is an emergency. As a matter of fact I had to take a dog to the vet for an Arterial Spurt for stitches.,and used Blood Stop on dogs that didn't need stitches, but needed to help get the bleeding to stop. Had to take a dog to the ER for an allergic reactions from bee stings. I know a lot about Dehydration and excessive vomiting since I am a nurse aide. Sure I can give my dogs meds and do on a daily basis. I do some home remedies, but I know when I can and if I didn't know I would simply call the vet and they would tell me over the phone.I deal with a crisis VERY well ! Hey Tyke, glad to see you didn't decide to stay away from yahoo answers(dogs).I like this questionnaire you put on here.

As a former nurse I have no problem with medical emergencies. But, I see what your getting at. I have seen both ends of the spectrum on here. Some, the dog is bleeding to death and they are on here asking "My dog was just hit by a car. What should I do?" and others are "I think my dog sneezed should I call a vet or give it Vicks cough syrup ?" It amazes me these dogs survive in spite of their owners. And the cheap a$$es that look for anything from anybody before spending a dime on the dog. What is so hard about giving a dog a pill? Liquid is even easier. I love the "My dog wont let me clip his nails" or " Why does my dog run away from me?" God help us and the poor dogs!

Most of the medical questions people ask on here, of the non-serious nature, could be just as easily be addressed initially, for FREE, by just CALLING their vet to get a trained opinion. If the vet thinks it's serious, they'll suggest they come in, if not, they suggest how they can handle it at home (like an earlier question about the too short, bleeding toe nail... a dab of cornstarch will fix that up cheap and quick!).

I am obsessive compulsive. So, when ever I am in doubt, I call the vet. They always answer my questions, and at least pretend that I am not bothering them. I would rather be safe than sorry when it came to my babies.
Oh, wait, I forgot where I was....
If I had a problem with my dog, like he was bleeding severely from his mouth, or he had a "film" covering his eyes, or my female was in labor and I didn't know what to do, I would get directly on Yahoo Answers and ask the "experts!"

I like to take my dogs to the vet for any problem with which I haven't had previous experience. And, yes, I have experienced quite a few problems in all my years of dog ownership. But, I will still call the vet and ask if I'm unsure. If she recommends it, my dog and I are on our way in. It seems to me that it is the responsible thing to do.

I can...... but
You mean dogs do not come with an instruction booklet like my dvd player.
So really do I need to take the dog to the vet for an arterial spurt?
I just can't answer anymore of the questions like these, they are so friggin annoying!!!
