How can you tell if the "nice guy" fancies you? He's nice to me, waits with me in the dark, hugs me, but treats others with gentle consideration, and as much affection
Is it his nature, or is he trying to say something? from anyone else, i'd take it as a strong sign.

I think he likes you.
Im generally a nice guy to everyone i know, when it comes to someone i like i can act different and not as nice, that isnt a bad thing though.
because shy guys get nervous they tend to get angry at themselves for feeling like they have messed up in a situation, they feel like they are going to do something silly around someone they like so they have to concentrate harder and they think too much about it that they end up showing throught actions that they see you are more.. or as less than a friend.
this may make them seem like they are not interested but they are.
As for the way he acts differently towards you to others must mean something.. so yes he either likes you.. or doesnt know 'you' as well as his other friends so he doesnt feel completely comfortable.
it could very well be he is trying to be the same around you as the others but because he is attracted to you it makes him act different.
but really i believe you should take this as a strong point..
sometimes people who 'do like you' find it hard to act nice especially if they feel intimidated by you. Anyone who acts different/weird around you is always a good thing unless you annoyed him somehow?

i know a really nice guy too, and yes he is like this with everyone but did tell me that he had feelings for me, so you never know.
if he is such a nice guy im sure he would tell you the truth if u just asked him or talked to him about it, and if you were in the wrong, he wouldnt judge you for it and im sure you two would still remain friends

I have exactly the same problem , i dont know what to do . i was told to tell him that i liked him but i couldnt pick up the courage . i sympathise with you girl!
Best thing to do is either ask him , or just wait it out

nobody is that nice for nothing, either hes manipulative or has a hidden agenda. i've known plenty of people who smiled while sharpening the knife behind my back. that is only my experience. i cant speak about him as i dont know him. but i wouldnt trust anybody who seemed too perfect.

ive known guys like this...and i hate them because they are so difficult to read...if you like him, why not hold him a little llonger next time he hugs you, he'll read the signals, and if he responds the same, then you'll know

You are not givin enough details. How he acts when he is not with you? Is he good with other people also?...
If you know how he is when he is not with you then you will be able to now his nature.
