I have a "teenage" cat who has been coughing for the last 3 days. I thought he had a furball at first, but now it has gone on too long. He is otherwise acting fine; eating, playing, etc. Do cats get colds? Any thoughts?

YOu should take her to the vet, there are many reasons cats cough. However this is something a longtime cat lover will tell you that your vet might not. If the vet says the cat has hairballs, when she begins coughing put a dab of vaseline (petroleum jelly) on her nose a couple times for 2-3 days, often this is enough to get her to pass the hairball, my "Lavern has them, tried all this fancy meds from vet and then my new vet had me try this, works great for Lavern.

The coughing may be the signal of an allergic reaction to too a lot vaccine. If the cough is going untreated, it would want to grow to be an top respiration an infection. I advise you call the Vet and ask if there is a few thing you may do without bringing kitty lower back in...even as individuals are allergic to issues, they could take Benedryl. i do not comprehend what over the counter drugs you would possibly want to offer a cat...fantastically even as the cat would are growing smaller a ailment even as on the Vet's place of work. in the experience that they made a mistake like that with my cat, i might want to change Vets in a heartbeat! Cats are thoroughly and entirely diverse from dogs. they do no longer have an excellent type of exact tolerance for go-over drugs. as an example, giving a cat anesthesia is rather, very not hassle-free on a cat, while it truly is rather no project with a dogs. If it were my cat, i might want to be in contact...ingesting or no longer. Coughing could no longer be wondered with attempting to expel fur balls. there's a distinct distinction. Coughing to expel fur balls might want to be extremely remedied with fur ball expectorant. real coughing isn't good.

Unfortunately persistent coughing in a cat can be a symptom of a heart problem so the best option for you is to have a vet examine the cat.

Plese take him to the vet. My cat had a coughing problem and eventually, we had to rush her to the vet because she could barely breathe. It turned out she has feline asthma. She can live a long, normal life, but she'll be on medication for the rest of her life.

My kitten had a cold. I think it was allergy related because she was fine when I brought her home and then within days she was coughing and sneezing. I changed her food and all was well, but, yes they do get colds. Mine did not act like herself though, she laid and slept all the time while she had it. You may want to take her and have her checked out if she acts like she feels fine but is coughing.

Uh hello.... VET?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Please get your cat to the vet. There are many things that could be going on. Choking, permenant placement of a hairball, and eons more. If you can't afford the vet, give the cat to some one who can give him the proper life.
