That usually spells a break from or the end of a relationship. Think about your feelings, will you ever be ready to marry him or have you realised he's not the guy you ever want to marry? On the etiquette side of things, you should return the ring if you haven't yet.

First you use spell check. Then you return the ring or any gifts you have recieved as wedding or engagement gifts. The ring is a promise to marry, you broke that promise you have no right to keep it or the gifts.

be nice about it - help the other person explain it to everyone but move on - live your life and make yourself happy being who you truly want to be - then and only then can you ever make someone else happy!
Good luck
