usually the charity sponsors the race and all the proceeds, meaning part of the entrance fees and pledges the runners get from people are given to that charity. most races when you register for them will have what charity the monies go for. or you can call the charity of your choice and find out if they are the recipients of any races

Ask for a charity bucket and get permission by the council to go on the streets and ask for money- then while running in the marathon... wear a funny suit/have funny hair/ have facepaint ... jus find a way 2 get noticed and then run with the bucket near the crowds

I'd recommend calling that charity and see if they have a person in charge of accepting donations. They probably would have some great ideas on how to do this.
