If the commitment ring is a claddagh ring then there are all kinds of rules.
The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer's romantic availability, or lack thereof. Traditionally, if the ring is on the right hand with the heart facing outward and away from the body, this indicates that the person wearing the ring is not in any serious relationship, and may in fact be single and looking for a relationship: "their heart is open." When worn on the right hand but with the heart facing inward toward the body, this indicates the person wearing the ring is in a relationship, or that "someone has captured their heart". A Claddagh worn on the left hand with the heart facing outward is often a sign of being engaged, and the ring on the left hand facing inward toward the body generally indicates that the wearer is married.

Not too sure where you should put it. Not too sure I really get the whole deal behind a 'commitment ring' either. It sounds like a "I promise to get engaged to you, then promise to marry you" ... Sounds like a lot of rings, hehe. Myself, I wouldn't have wanted a commitment ring, unless it were an actual engagement ring. There probably is something sweet about it, but I just feel that it is juvenille - something teenagers do. In any even though, it's still sweet that your girlfriend would do that for you. I agree with someone said above. Get that girl a diamond! Make it official, don't do the I promise to promise thing. :) Good luck!

I think it's an individual thing for you to decide. Like...if I were to get married tomorrow, I'd probably wear it differently somehow just as a symbol of the fight that still needs to happen. For other people, it's more important symbolically that it really is the exact same thing. And then you can start considering other people's perceptions; people might get a little confused if it's on the right hand, but everyone knows what it means on the left hand. Something you should talk to your partner about, perhaps. Oh, and...Congratulations. :D

That's a new one on me! Never heard of a "commitment" ring before. I would assume it would be the same hand as she would wear an engagement ring but good luck anyway.

left hand, ring finger. Basically you are committing yourselves to each other which means hopefully one day you will wed, just like a promise. Wear your ring on your left hand ring finger and be proud.

Left hand ring finger. If you're committed it's like being married.

My boyfriend was got an expensive one after me refusing to marry him when he behaved like a shiiit. It's worn on the left hand but look. If one or the other person will not marry they are not committed, full stop. Why do we play at things these days?
Obviously I refused the ring.

Traditionally it's left hand, ring finger. I personally think that finger should be "saved" for a wedding ring and wore my commitment ring on my right hand, ring finger. There's really no rule - just tradition, but you can always make your own tradition.
