Spin develops with your swing. As you become more comfortable with your swing you will find spin. Hitting the ball higher doesnt mean your going to get more spin, it only means your going to land it softer. Learning to spin the ball with a less developed swing could be dangerous. I would suggest learning to play without spin. And as you become more comfortable with your swing and hit the ball more "pure" you will be able to put spin on the ball. Me personally did not really develop much spin until i reached a 4 handicap, then i had a problem with to much spin. Good Luck!

Backspin is kind of overrated. The obvious are soft balls, the lowest point of your swing happening about 1/32 inch past the ball and swining nearly 100% at your iron shots. Your playing buddy hitting the 9 iron 155 will have backspin while your 7 or 8 controlled shot will have limited spin. Lastly green conditions such as playing on Bermuda will help.

1: Stand with your feet closer together than when you normally swing.
2: Position yourself so that the ball is closer to your back foot.
3: Use a sand or lob wedge.
4: Swing the club on a steeper plain (more upright).
5: Hit directly underneath the ball before taking a divot. Take a divot that is long and shallow.
6: Follow through normally.
Make sure that the grooves on the face of your clubs are clean.
It is easier to spin a "softer" 3 piece golf ball.
This shot is most effective when the ball comes in at a high trajectory.
This is one of the hardest shots in golf and must be practiced on a driving range before being attempted on the course!

in order to get back spin you MUST :
1. be on the fairway or similar quality turf
2. contact the ball prior to the ground
3. this will create a pinch effect against the turf which causes the grooves to create the desired spin.
hit the back of the ball with the club in a downward blow before hitting the ground. Your club should actually not touch the ground or take a divot except in front of where the ball originally set.

new balls ha! that's a laugh....you can make a rock have back spin if you know how to hit it right...its all about the downward angle of the club....the steeper you are coming at impact the better...when you make contact you HAVE to hit the ball FIRST...hit the ball before the ground is key...sure you make, get that large divot like the pros if you hit the ground first but you will not get the right results...hitting the ball first makes direct contact with the clubface increasing reverse revolutions on the ball (and you'll still get that nice divot you wanted) warning: its alot harder than it sounds....toook me along time to learn this one lol
good luck

Don't listen to the loon-mal person. You should never scoop the ball to get it in the air. Anyways, how is it possible to hit down and scoop the ball at the same time? You need to have a steep swing plane, hit down on the ball to make ball-first contact, and fully extend your arms on the release. Also you need a soft-cover ball and clean grooves.

You need to file the grooves. That's what the pro's do to get the back spin.

How often do you hit your shots past the hole? Don't worry about back spin.

Hit down onto the ball while scooping under it. Keep trying. The pro will charge you $$$$$ for that advice.

Dear Budding Tiger,
You must pay a pro for the knowledge of showing you how to do this. This is what separates the pros from the weekenders.
Thanks,
Your Pro at the Golfcourse
