I am not a dentist, but I am in the dental field. Sounds like you may need a root canal. The area where the puss is seapping out is most likely a fistula. This is a natural drainage system. You are lucky to have one! Some people do not create these drains and their face will swell.
If the tooth in question has already been root canal treated, there are other procedures available to you to save your tooth.
Please visit your dentist as soon as you can! Until then...rinse with warm water and salt. Take ibuprofen. This is an anti-inflammatory. It is OK to take 400mg at a time. This is a prescription dose and in your case you probably need it!

Ask you boyfriends dentist to perform a procedure called a "Pulpectomy". This procedure is a temporary solution for his problem. A Pulpectomy is basically half of a Root Canal. When your dentist does a Root Canal Procedure, they are removing the nerve (Pulp) from the canal space within the root. This is the area that the bacteria is residing from his infection. Usually once this canal space is cleaned (with little files and medication) the canal space within the root is sealed up permanently with a rubber type substance called Gutta Percha. That is the whole Root Canal Procedure! A Pulpectomy is the first half of a Root Canal. The dentist will remove the nerve and infected tissue with the files and medication but not put the final seal in the canal space. This procedure is great for emergency situations to relieve pain and to remove most of the infection; However, like I said, this is only a temporary fix. Without the final "fill", the infection over time will return, but this will buy you some time to save up for the Root Canal. Sometime (not all Dentists do this), if the Root Canal is finished within a certain time frame, they will apply the fee from the Pulpectomy to the cost of the Root Canal. The best option is to have his dentist put him on a payment plan, where he agrees to pay a certain amount each month and have him get the Root Canal now. Also, try having him take 800mg of Motrin every 4-6 hours (this is the prescription dose), keep his head elevated and see the dentist! Hope that this helps!

You have to see a dentist as soon as possible three weeks is to late. An abscessed tooth can lead to further health problems. The bacteria found in your mouth is the same bacteria that they found to lead to heart problems. My husband is a holistic dentist and I do assist him sometimes and i hear a lot of the conversations that go on. For the pain Tylenol 3 should help. If you want whats best for your health pull them out if they are abscessed. Root canals can also cause health problems. Nothing good can come out of leaving a dead tooth in your mouth.

Are you asking how to pull it yourself or how to rid yourself of an infection?
To rid yourself of the infection until you can get in to see a dentist, go to your local emergency room and complain of severe pain with oozing puss. They will give a prescription antibiotic, and if it's really bad they will do an IV antibiotic on the spot. You can have them send you a bill if you do not have the funds today.
DON'T EVEN TRY TO REMOVE AN INFECTED TOOTH YOURSELF! Or any teeth for that matter.lol
Good luck!

You need to implore with your dentist about the severity of your problem. An abcessed tooth can lead to some severe and even dangerous problems, especially if the infection spreads into the bloodstream (septicemia). You need prescription antibiotics and follow-up care ASAP!

You need to get to a dentist, any dentist NOW. You do NOT want that infection spreading to the bone. I'm serious. Log off and call now. Tell them it's emergency. Quit reading and do it.
