Do not think you are overweight...I am a graduate nurse and truly it will depend on your health status, waist circumference, Body Max Index, frame size (by measuring your wrist circumference, because that's where fat is the most dense...those with a larger frame-bone size weigh more than a small framed person does) and many many other things...if you have a healthy eating regime, and have good cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror...then...I'd say you're doing great!

Here's how you calculate frame size: for Women and Men

Body frame size is determined by a person's wrist circumference in relation to his height. For example, a man whose height is over 5' 5" and wrist is 6" would fall into the small-boned category.

Determining frame size:To determine the body frame size, measure the wrist with a tape measure and use the following chart to determine whether the person is small, medium, or large boned.

Women:

height under 5'2"

small = wrist size less than 5.5"
medium = wrist size 5.5" to 5.75"
large = wrist size over 5.75"

height 5'2" to 5' 5"

small = wrist size less than 6"
medium = wrist size 6" to 6.25"
large = wrist size over 6.25"

height over 5' 5"

small = wrist size less than 6.25"
medium = wrist size 6.25" to 6.5"
large = wrist size over 6.5"

Men:

height over 5' 5"
small = wrist size 5.5" to 6.5"
medium = wrist size 6.5" to 7.5"
large = wrist size over 7.5"

MOST IMPORTANTLY...CALCULATE YOUR BMI...THAT IS THE NUMBER THAT WILL TELL YOU MORE THAN A HEIGHT AND WEIGHT CHART ALONE CAN! You can find one from the CDC (center for disease control) here: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/index.htm

Your BMI is 25.

BMI Categories are:

Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
Overweight = 25-29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

According to your BMI you are at the early stage of becoming overweight.

However, BMI on its own is a crude measurement as it only calculates your weight in relation to your height.

It makes no distinction between lean muscle mass and body fat. Obviously lean muscle weighs much more than fat. This is why body builders have a high BMI but are not obese.

You need to have a body fat percentage test to give a clearer idea of whether you need to lose weight.

It would depend completely on your body composition, but you are a little on the high side of the normal range for your height.

PLEASE don't diet though. A book called the Schwartzbein Principal talks about how low fat diets, low calorie diets, and even low carb diets damage your metabolism. The doctor that wrote it has a very common-sense approach to nuturition, and advocates eating balanced meals of healthy, lean protein, non-starchy veggies (like brocholli and greens), and "good" carbs, such as avocado (which is also good fat), fruits, and starchy veggies like potatoes. She advocates cutting out processed flour and sugar. If you ate like that and engaged in moderate exercise, I'm sure you would see a difference within a few weeks. It wouldn't be dramatic like a crash diet, but it would be healthier and more likely to stick long-term. Your body would reach it's ideal weight all on it's own.

You are at healthy weight

5'9", 169 lbs.
Your BMI score is: 24.9

A BMI score of 18.5 to 24.9 indicates you have a healthy body fat ratio. Remember to keep your healthy lifestyle by eating right and exercising.

I think you are just a little overweight, since you are very tall. I would go down to 145 or 150 for you and that would be it.

your doctor would know if you are overweight or just right... because even though there is no such thing as big boned, your family history and body type might be larger, and there really is no normal weight, so you are probrobly just right, but no advice can beat your doctor's

I think it depends on your body type and what you feel comfortable with.

To some you're overweight and to others you're just right I'm sure.

Do what's right for you!
