yes, it does matter. If you respect someone, you speak respectfully to them and around them. Would you use profanity around your parents, spiritual advisor, boss....anyone you would want to think highly of you? It seems people who use a lot of profanity, and yes I have them in my family also, generally show how little they really have to say.

Well I don't mind as long as its not like every other word if it slips out thats fine but I do my best not to do it around my boyfriend and my friends I just don't think it sounds right, but it doesn't bother me much like I said unless its like every other word it doesn't matter but if it directed at me then I have major issues. But I will say this I have been with my boyfriend for 2 months now and I don't think I have ever hear him use profanity ever and I like that...

It bother me alot. I am 35 and have never used profanity. I tell my husband all the time how offensive I find it. I think if he respected me he would not use that kind of language around me but he really doesn't care. : (

Well, there's profanity and then there's profanity.
The typical, every day, garden-variety, "hear them on TV" cuss words I don't really mind. (As long as they are being used in front of me and not AT me.)
But there's that really trashy gutter talk that has no place anywhere, and I don't want to hear that. I don't even know how to classify it, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Do not use profanity around women, that is a golden rule for men. You don't even need to use profanity around them unless you are angry. Nobody will blame you, but if you are casually talking, don't use it. It disrespects them.
Women shouldn't swear either, that is terrible to do, it ruins my image of someone for sure.

Old habits like that die hard.
You should probably realize that more then a few women curse themselves, and don't really care. It depends on the individual, not sex. Some men probably find it offensive, while some women don't.

I don't curse, so I don't really want to hear cursing from other people around me - male or female. However, when in a group situation I tolerate cursing if people choose to do it. But it's not something I prefer to hear.

I don't like it when anyone uses profanity. There's no reason for it.
