Especially when they have known you for a while and know how good of a person you are. You can almost see the smoke coming out of their head from trying to understand how a heathen can be so nice. The "TILT" light comes on over their head. Very entertaining.

Queue the "You're not very nice if you ask this" responses. Really I think it's good for them to see it since it makes them rethink their worldview.

Me: You said "...you are a judgemental bigot"

I am judgemental where it is warranted, but I am by no means a bigot. I do not dislike people of any race or creed. I base my judgements on each individual. In this case, the only Christians who I have known that found out acted this way. I am smart enough to know that not all Christians will.

Well I don't know about the atheists and agnostics, but as a pagan....or more specifically a Witch......I get some reactions that would knock your socks off. From catholics crossing themselves, to baptists looking for the nearest exit, to prayers being hurled at me as some form of mutated exorcism or something. Although, a very few do respond with curiosity. A little of it could be that I'm 5'11" tall and usually have on heels.........LOL

Most of my friends are Christians, and for the most part, the biggest reaction I've gotten is a very mild case of shock. I like to believe that's because I live a decent life, and don't lend any credence to the whole "immoral atheist" argument.

I have met a couple of...*loving, tolerant Christians*...who ridiculed me, or used the term 'atheist' as if it were a slur. In these instances, they were definitely the stereotypical uneducated Christian.

It doesn't happen very often, because I don't discuss religion at work or at school, and that's where I know the most people. If I am good friends with someone, you can bet that person is intelligent enough to be able to deal with it.

Wow...what a sweeping generalization. I'm a Christian and have many athiest friends and think no differently about them upon finding out they are athiest/agnostic. Judging by your post though I would guess you don't have many Christian friends as you are a judgemental bigot.

They just kinda blink and pretty much not really believe it, like you're just saying it out of spite or something. They just keep on talking as if everyone on the planet is Christian.

You wouldn't believe the reactions I got when I went to a Christian school. Laughter, wide eyes, name-calling.

But once I got through school, it was a lot more liek you described. :P
