Boy do I! I have three boys, 14, 11 & 5. I think it is important for them to help run the house. The older two have to keep their rooms picked up and clean the bathrooms on Saturday. When they get home from school they often have one thing I have left for them to do ie unload the dishwasher, fold a load of laundry or put some groceries away. The 14 year old has to babysit his brothers once in a while. The 5 year old helps too. He has to make his bed, pick up his toys and empty garbage cans when his brothers do their bathrooms. I think itis important for everyone to help out. I have friends who think they have to do it all and they are worn out. I also think when my kids are out with others they are more helpful and it will continue when they are adults.

Mine do. They make their beds daily and my older son (11) picks up the dog poop while my younger one (9) gathers the household trash cans and dumps them out in the big can. They are, also, responsible for setting and clearing the table for meals (I rotate that between them) and for walking the dogs. They been doing most of this stuff for a couple of years. They don't always remember to do all the chores on their own, but they are getting better at it.

My kids are young, but I tell them that there are certain chores (or things) you do as part of the family team -- like put your clothes in the hamper and pick up your own toys. They don't get a reward for those things. As they get older, we add responsibility according to their capabilities. My 5 year old folds (sort of) and puts away her own clothes. She also makes her own bed (sort of). If she does something above and beyond normal chores, she earns a reward.

Yes it teaches responsibility an also teaches them early to pull their weight they get an allowance at the end of the month if all chores are done correctly and they get deductions for work done incorrectly.

2 boys: 6 and 4. They clean their rooms and make their beds, set the supper table and clear their plates. I don't know if that's the norm, but that's what we do. Hope it helps.

my 6 year old twins have to clean their rooms and keep their toys in place if they are out of their rooms. Otherwise, my kids like (yes, like) to do the dishes from time to time, sweep, vacuum, and my son likes to clean the bathroom for some reason. But he always asks for a dollar!!

My parents don't make me do anything on a routine or anything. If they sometimes say vaccum the floor then I'll do it. Basically, I have nothing mandatory.
