They are similar, but not the same. Oxycodone is a schedule II narcotic an hydrocodone is a schedule III. They both are pain relievers. Oxycodone is more addictive and a little stronger.

Oxycodone is NOT just generic for OxyContin. Percocet, Percolone, Roxidone, Combunox, and OxyIR along with many others all have oxycodone as an active ingredient as well. OXycontin is the time realease version of Oxycodone, the rest are all immediate release formulas. Hydrocodone is found in Lorcet, Lortab, Vicodin, Zydone, Anexsia and several cough syrups. They both synthesized from thebaine and are closely related but are not the same thing. Oxycodone is a bit stronger than Hydrocodone and is usally given if the Hydrocodone does not relieve the patient's pain.

I have taken both. Oxycodone is generic for OxyContin and hydrocodone is generic for Vicodin. And despite what has been said here, if you take them properly and as directed, you will be fine. I took hydrocodone for 3 years and have never had a "high" feeling and have never had a problem. You just have to be smart, if your pain is bad don't start thinking "my pain is bad, I've already taken my dosage but I'll take one more to knock the edge off. THAT is where you get into trouble. Be smart and you'll be fine. Living with chronic pain stinks and people that tell you not to take it because you'll be an addict obviously have NO idea what it's like to live in pain. I wish you the best of luck!!!

They are different, but related. Oxycodone is more powerful and is given for severe pain.

No Oxycodine is generic for Oxycontin & it's a time released or long acting drug. Hydrocodone is a lortab in low dose to a Lorcet high dose both have aspirin in them. It is a fast acting drug or a break through pain reliever. www.medcinenet.com for more medical information. I hope this helps you.
