I like how playful she is and I do not want to be just a lump of fur laying around if I get her spayed. Am I being crazy?

Hello, I have to say first that it is SO great to actually see someone who cares about their pet and actually wants to play with her. I am so sick to my stomach after reading some of these posts about people neglecting their animals and squirting them in the face with water. I wish there was more I could do.

As to your question, For the first couple of weeks she will be pretty recluse. My baby wanted to be left alone and hid under the bed. Make sure you put down some warm towels for he to lay on and follow the vets directions. Comfort her if she'll let you, she will be in pain. After a couple of weeks (maybe sooner depending on the cat) she will perk up. Make sure you take an extra effort to play with her, this will keep her frisky and it is also good for her weight. My cat (as with many others) got a little chubby after being spayed. Their dietary needs change and she will need more exercise. Playing with her is the best thing you can do. She'll bounce back! Just give her time and encourage her a little. Thank you for being one of the people who actually deserves and animal! Good luck with your little girl!

It is possible that she could be more layed back. However, I've seen many cats be playful after they have been spayed. My cat isn't as playful anymore but there are still ways that she plays. For instance she always plays with my kittens and whenever we let her chase the light from a flashlight she loves playing. i must admit that she was not as playful before we got the kittens. But I would recommend getting her spayed or you could experience problems in the future

Maybe she had said all she wanted to say. Look, cats go through times where they are very talkative, and other times they remain quiet. Since she was sexually mature when she was spayed, her hormones are still fading, so the spaying is not the reason she is quiet. As far as being skittish, I suspect she is really giving you the cold shoulder for the vet trip. Cats often hate to be put in a carrier, and I think you are paying the price for that. It will probably take awhile before she trusts that you approaching her is not going to result in her being stuffed into a carrier. If you know where she is, sit down and talk to her. You will have to regain her trust. By sitting down, you are less threatening. Cats recover quickly from spaying. Often, pain medication is prescribed to make the cat servant feel better, not for the betterment of the cat.

For a few days, yes. I mean would you feel like being spunky and playful after surgery? But once she's up and moving you should see her return to being active - then encourage her with lots of play and catnip and all sorts of fun things! None of my girls (4 in 20+ years) have ever become lumps unless they wanted to be that way - and the one that did was because she was jealous of the newcomer in the house - not because of her being spayed.

My cats are just as ornery and playful as ever. This should not make lay around, and not want to play. Don't hesitate to have her spayed. She will be a much better cat, in many ways.

Don't worry - spaying will not affect her playfulness. That is a personality trait and not connected to her reproductive system. Congratulations on being a responsible cat owner!

All of my cats were briefly sidelined with their spay/neuter surgeries and then were back to their old selves within a few days. If they were playful before the surgery, they were playful after.

Her demeanor should calm down a little bit once she's spayed, but she will be just as playful as ever after the first few days. Don't worry!

it didn't affect the overall personalities of any of my four cats when they were spayed. be aware though, some of the time as an animal ages its playfulness can diminish. however i have an 11 year old kitty who wears out the 2 year old!!!
