Does it kinda dissolve in loo water and just disappear? Or does it get flushed out to the seas in some form or other?
Is it better to just chuck it in the bin?

It works out to be the same result. If you flush it down the toilet the toliet water automatically goes to a water treatment plant where they have to take out all the impuraties in the water (poop, toliet paper, garbage, all sorts of stuff) After removing all these things happen they have to treat the water to make it reusable. The impuraties that get removed get put into trash bags that dump truck hall out to the local dump. Just like it would if you were to just toss the toilet paper. Either way it ends up in the same spot. The reason I know this is because I went to the water treatment plant in Grade 8 for a field trip almost 10 years ago. Good thing to know I actually paid attention in class.

DO NOT CHUCK IT IN THE BIN!!! Used toilet paper will be a vector for many bad diseases. It needs to go down the toilet so it can be treated at the waste-water treatment plant. The public health issues take precedence over the environmental impact.
AND WASH YOUR HANDS!

The used toilet paper does not disappear in either of cases.
But if you flush it, and it is separated from water in the water treatment plants, it would take less volume in dumps than the one from the bin (due to the lack of oxygen).
On the other hand, decomposition of paper from the bin in dumps or combustion plants can be faster.

You decide. :)

I'm pretty sure it dissolves, but you have to keep in mind that, even if it gets down to a microscopic level, it can't completely disspear. Plus, if you threw away toilet paper, it would smell bad and just be kinda nasty.
