yes... in fact it's great for any anxiety. but a cheaper option is dramamine which you can get without a perscription, it calms you down, and makes you very relaxed and sometimes sleepy.

See if you can speak with the flight attendants before your next couple of flights. Explain to the gate agent that you would like to pre-board so that you can have a chat with the FA's about what to expect during the flight; they won't always say OK but they often do. That way, the FA's can explain the mechanics of how the plane stays up, even in rough weather, and in normal words that you don't have to be a scientist to understand. It might take a couple of trips till you find a really helpful one, but it's worth it to try. I used to be a very nervous flyer but once someone took the time to explain all the safety mechanisms, and how the air itself changes temperature and speed and how that changes what the ride feels like, I calmed down quite a bit. A xanax or a cocktail before flight definitely helps but it's much better to understand why you are anxious, and work through that. Knowing lasts longer than xanax!
