My dog throws up everytime I bathe him, and if he isn't throwing up he is gagging. At first, I thought it was the water getting into his face, but I avoided getting water into his face and he still vomits. Anyone have any expierence with this? How do I stop it? Is it something with the breed?

Thanks for all the answers. The thing is he has special prescription shampoo for severe skin problems, so we have to bathe him AT LEAST 4 times a month.

I think it is stress, but dont let him drink the water in the tub. Mine use to go to town and drink like they had never seen water before and they would vomit. Talk very calmly and reassure the dog.

He may get really stressed out with the bathing. Alternatively, he may be licking himself or some water that has shampoo in it. Try changing shampoos and see if that helps.

Otherwise, try to make bath time as calm as possible for him. You may want to buy some doggie wipes so you can wipe him down and bathe only twice a month. With a short haired breed, that's a good option for you.

Maybe he's ingesting some of the shampoo. I have an English Bulldog that LOVES baths. Too bad.
If you're having problems, take him to a groomer to have a bath once or twice a month. Once my Bulldog got too big for me to handle, I decided it was worth the extra cost.
