I've dyed my eyebrows and eyelashes many times. My mother is a cosmetologist : ) You use a special hair dye for those sensitive areas that is vegetable based.

That said...I've done the unthinkable and used real hair dye on my brows NOT EYELASHES--you'll blind yourself! You can use whatever you're dying your head with on the brows. It does not grow out right away and will fade a bit after the first week.

If your natural shade of eyebrow is truly black, changing the brow colour might be less of a problem than leaving it to not match the head.

You can also bleach blonde your eyebrows and I've seen it done but I did not really like the end result. It's a personal choice that luckily, you can remedy if you don't like the lighter brows. You can simply use a brow powder or pencil over the brows if you do not like the lighter shade.

To tint the eyelashes and brows will depend on the salon but a common price is $25.

I kept my hair a natural shade of bright red all summer, and I dyed my eyebrows to match since my brows are really dark and thick (ugh I hate them) Any way, it looked really good but it faded a lot faster than the dye in my hair. I didn't bleach them first like I did with my hair, which was a good idea cause then they would have looked really weird. Just dye your eyebrows a much more toned down version of whatever you do on your hair, so when it fades, it's not really noticeable.

If you already have dark black eyebrows, then I would go for it. The stylist will do it while she's doing your hair. It takes less than 10 minutes. Most stylists will do it for free, if she does charge it will be pretty cheap.

It probably won't dramatically change the color of your eyebrows since they are so dark, but will add a red "hue" to them, making your hair color look a little more natural!
:-)

Also, feel free to ask your stylist her opinion. She can see you and will know if it's a terrible idea. Although, since your eyebrows are already dark, I doubt it will be!

As a licensed pro, we are taught that is not a good idea to use hair color on facial hair. That's not to say that it isn't done. This is a risky practice that is best left to a pro, though. Color mixtures can be runny and if it gets into your eyes it can cause severe damage or blindness.

When you get your hair colored at the salon, as your stylist for their recommendations. There are specific formulations that can be used on your facial hair and your pro is the best person to do this for you.

Best of luck!

I've never HAD them dyed, but I've done them myself when I've dyed my hair. In my experience it's not worth it - in a couple of days I couldn't even tell anymore that they'd ever been done.

I've seen it done on What Not to Wear, but I can't get a stylist to do it!
