I think the recruiter is just worried about his numbers. It is possible to quit before she goes to boot camp. My friend changed his mind 3 times and in fact, when I was in boot camp, we had a girl quit 2 days before graduation. So tell the recruiter that he needs to check his sources and if he still says anything, tell him/her that you want to speak to their commander about this.

I know for sure up until you get on the bus for basics that you can change your mind and not go even if you signed a contract. The only thing they can do to you is give you a small fine for the time and money they spent but no jail time can be given. I'm not sure if you can bail once your in boot camp but i know you can before.

She's up that old creek without a paddle, and boy, is she gonna regret it! Once you sign the dotted line and raise your right hand, you are IN THE ARMY! Yo: it costs a lot of money to test a potential recruit as thoroughly as the Armed Forces do, including a background check. Failing to meet her obligations will cost the government several thousand dollars, and it's the same as if she robbed a bank. And that's all before she spends one day at Basic Training. Tell her don't be no fool and to live up to her promises. Or be prepared not to see her for several years 'cause they WILL throw her in the slammer!

I will assume that she is in the delayed entry program. Until she goes to MEPS for that final time, does the physical and swears in, she can do what ever she wants to do. The threats the recruiters are making are false. She is not a member of the armed forces until she takes that final oath.

Yes. She can. She can refuse to go to boot camp. My husband is a Marine and has had buddies go through this.
*adding on*
It's possible for someone to be sent back even while at boot camp but it will be 100% easier if she just doesn't go to boot camp. Trust me. Even if she swore in. Like the guy below said....not till she goes to MEPS and swears in on the day she gets sent to boot camp. I believe they "swear you in" the first time you go to MEPS but they do it again on the day that they leave for bootcamp. Because I remember when my husband went for physicals and stuff they swore him in and then on the day he left for boot camp and had to present to MEPS they swore them in and I was able to stand next to him. I take great pride in him and all of our service men and women but I do understand how someone would feel like you two.
Joining the military for money purposes wasn't very smart.....Good luck.

In the big scheme of things, a year is not too long. She will get training in the field of her choice and she did sign a contract.

YES...SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO GO! They will try to threaten her she allows them too. But, she does not have to go. (She can probably report the requiter for harassment and lying)The most they will do is keep contacting her trying to get her to go! Tell her to read her contract. Trust me I signed up for the Army first didn't want to join the death trap, told them I didn't want to go (2wks before my AIT). Then 12 months later I joined the AF. No I didn't have to join the AF I choose too. My friends father was a requiter and he was the one who told me I did not have to go!!!!!!!!

She can bail out before she shows up to the MEPS and departs for Basic. The threats are false.
