Yep, it can be perfectly normal. I worked as a nurse in a residential care facility for 18 years, and it was quite common for patients to forget that they had had lunch, ( even an hour before) or to forget that there was an outting planned that they had been reminded of only the night before. Even forgetting family members from one day to the next. It's not necessarily dementia or alzheimers, although it's usually heading that way - but it can be years before dementia well and truly shows up.

If you can remind yourself that she isn't doing this on purpose, and she has no control over it, it makes it a lot easier to bear.

Good luck...

First of all there are no accurate test that will tell someone if they have Alz or Dem.. only CT scans and as we grow older all parts of our body get scar tissue including our brain, which in some can cause pressure and stml( short term memory loss). Most of the time it has to do with hearing, or they are tired of hearing people telling them what to do. So they use selective hearing, and forget to remember what was not important to them at the time. I really hope this make sense. Have patients and a glass of wine.

Yes i think it's normal I am only 27 and sometimes I can't remember what I did yesterday!!!!! (not from drinking). If there is no signs of alzeimers there is nothing to worry about its just down to old age.

Alzheimers and dementia are very hard to diagnose in the elderly. If your lady had a hysterectomy very young, yes, it could be Alzheimers. There is a correlation between feminine hormones and Alzheimers or dementia. My mom had a hysterectomy when she was 26 and we blamed it on this. If it´s short term memory loss, I`d say Alzheimers. She could already suspect she has it and is scared or depressed along with it.

It might be the medication that she has to take, take her back to the doctor and find out the side effects of the medicine that she has to take. Check your house for mold, it grows some of every where, also check and make sure that there are no type of gas leaks or carbon monoxide coming into the house, there are all kinds of reasons why people lose them memory

I say that all the time and I'm 18! It's normal, especially for stupid questions, especially after 70 years. I mean no one is required to answer other people's questions.

It is perfectly normal - as we get older we get more forgetful - I am only 33 and can't remember what I had for breakfast or where I put my car keys. You just need to be patient and just keep an eye on her - we will all get old one day and it is probably just as frustrating for her

It is normal not to remember something even when younger. Take into consideration that person is not doing this to drive you crazy, it is possible to forget something indeed.

Sure...I'm only in my 50's and this happens to me all the time. Especially, if I'm not paying 100% attention when being told something.

It could just be that when something's said..."she" wasn't paying attention...lack of concentration or interest could make a person of any age "not remember" or "not know"
Children suffer from it a lot....
