If there was only Noah and his kids and theirs spouses then their kids (cousins) would have had to have mated with each other.

That's incest.

You're Bible says incest is wrong.

Isn't that a contridiction?

Simple answer: Incest IS wrong in the law of Moses and thereafter. But this was well before Moses's law. There was "incest", if you wish to call it that, between Adam and Eve's children as well - as least some (one or more pairs) of them. There had to be, out of logical necessity. Scientifically, this was not as dangerous as it is today because there were many fewer imperfections in the gene pool, so incest was less likely to pass them on.

That's a very good question. And a very controversial one.

How about Adam and Eve's children?

One theory is that Noah supposedly brought about more than one couple - possibly unrelated couples. Let's say he brought on board 5 unrelated couples. Then, their children will not have to inter-breed.

The other theory is that there were other survivors who were smart enough to listen to God, and saved their families.

There are many untold and unexplained stories in the Bible - it's just a collection of narratives from different saints, so it's not quite complete, objectively speaking. And I'm sure there were some stories that were censored or lost throughout the ages.

enable's no longer neglect that interior the Epic of Gilgamesh, a Sumerian tale instructed lengthy in the previous Noah, there replaced into an incredible Flood and Gilgamesh stored each and every of the animals on a great raft. The Genesis version replaced into purely a retelling of an in the past tale. i do no longer understand which replaced into extra ridiculous. the thought that the Ark replaced into the 1st boat. (If it replaced into, how the hell did the folk of Noah's time go fishing or run their waterborne commerce routes?) Ot the thought that the flood replaced into the 1st rain in the international. (the place did the water come from for human beings to advance their flowers?) Do human beings no longer end to think of issues by? advantages on your adventure!

They had 3 breeding pairs of children (Shem, Ham and Japheth and their wives) so their children and grandchildren intermarried. It wasn't a problem back then; the gene pool hadn't built up enough bad genes to cause birth defects. Also, God didn't give laws against incest until the time of Moses. This same explanation applies to Cain's wife as well. Adam and Eve kept having children long after Cain had left the nest. Eventually he meets a woman. It's his sister, but it's OK because he didn't grow up with her, and she's just another woman to him.

Get your chronology in order. Deuteronomic laws come after Noah. Marrying close relatives was common prior and no law forbade it. Sarai is Abram's half sister for example (Genesis 20:12). Prohibiting incest was a simple matter of genetic diversity, not moral evil. Not much you could do about it if your mating stock is limited by drowning.

And it's really mean to tempt our flesh with that picture. (OMG!!!!)

Incest is wrong, but hello? What about Adam and Eve's kids? There actually was no choice...And the Bible states that incest is wrong AFTER this stuff happened because now we have the choice.

The reason incest is wrong is because in today's society mating with a relative would result in genetic problems for the children. In the days of Noah, the gene pool would have been much more pure so it would not have been such a genetic issue.

Well, Lots daughters mated with him after the fall of Sodom because they believed that they were the last people on earth...so...stealing is forgiven if its between that and certain starvation so why not incest if its for the betterment of the world.

But yes, it is a contradiction...that's why I use the bible for inspiration not as a definitive for life.

You will get the obligatory list of answers: misinterpretation, not literal, mysterious ways, and because god says so/can.

It's a fairy tale that was based on the sumerian tale. It's not even the Christians tale to begin with. Moreover, did anyone think about the 300,000 species of beetle that Noah would have to collect? Or the marsupials in Australia? Or about how he would collect grizzly bears, lions, venomous scorpions, snakes, etc?

Don't believe that fairy tale. Yes there was a flood and it was caused by a major nuclear explosion that caused the lands to sink and rise toward the sky at miraculous speed. There were many survivors on the lands that sky rocketed.
