2, because they are more dangerous and annoying. I think they should get fined.

Road Hogs. They present the biggest danger. Today's auto are made to be super safe and have tremendous handling abilities, yet we continue to have this rediculous speed limits.

I have had the great fortune to drive in various countries in Europe, and they have proven that speed in fact can well in 2 and 3 lane highways. The key is having drivers who are paying attention , and don't have an attitude towards others.

In the USA states are more concern in picking up a quick 25 dollars for a driver license than they are in making sure drivers are well trained. In the long run, states would make more money if drivers were properly trained, and were well equipped on how to handle their vehicle.

The 2nd problem is enforcement, the majority of citations given are for speeding (this is the easiest case to prove in court when challenged), but you will rarely see any get stopped for doing something totally stupid. Many states have a law against the left lane being anything else but a passing lane, unfortunately this is rarely enforce (only one state have I seen this be enforce " Texas").

If you drive in Europe you will realize that the left lane is a passing lane, you don't even need to flash you lights or anything stupid. The driver in front of you is alert and will yield before you even approach them. This sense of yielding to faster traffic, and not having someone slam on their brakes or block creates a better flow to traffic. Less cars weaving in and out, a continuous flow in all lanes, and a comfort as you know what the other driver is going to do.

In the USA, you have none of that. You will get a driver slam on his brakes, block the lane, slow down, give you the finger, create a complete jam of cars behind them, create a wolf pack (most dangerous situation to be in), etc... when they could simply move out of the way for 3 seconds and allow things to flow like they should.

We have about the best highways in the world, we in general are able to afford some of the best vehicles in the world, yet we have about the most ill-prepared drivers. It is a true shame.

the worst drivers are the idiots that sit in the middle lane at about 60mph. It is a passing lane . MOVE ...

Why does every one get at people that speed. Go to Germany , On the autobahns you can do what ever speed you want in the unrestricted stretches , I have never seen many accidents over there. Of course there are parts where there parts with a speed limit . And alot of the time they obey the limits. As soon as the limit is gone then you are free to drive as fast as you want.
A major part of the problem in the UK is that the training given to a lot of drivers is poor. there is no training on the motorways. So a lot of new drivers go out for their first drive and get scared so they sit in the middle lane. As they are to scared of the lorries and wont get into the slow lane.

Both are dangerous. In terms of potential to cause death, I would imagine speeders are more dangerous. However, in terms of net negative affect on others it is FAR and away road hogs who cause more grief. For every accident caused by a speeding car there must statistically be millions who are affected in some way by someone selfishly and illegally sitting in the middle of the road, obstructing others. Consider that the actions of the road hogs are what cause the vast majority of motorway congestion, and all the frustration, lateness, and life interruption that goes with this.

Consider also it is these people who sit in the middle of the road who are raising the ire of many of those around them - rightly or wrongly this is the case - and how many accidents are caused by the impaired judgement of these frustrated people once released from the clutches of the selfish road hog? How many times is it getting past some idiot in the middle lane that causes the speeding in order to make up for lost time?

Drivers who are really fast, just just pass you. You don't even have time to notice them. The most dangerous people are the ones driving just the speed limit in the left two lanes or slower than the overall traffic except for those in the rightmost lane. That makes people sleepy and tired and lose concentration.

Drivers who hog the road create dangerous situations, because then instead of people trying to keep up with everyone, they're blocking them which results in cars continously trying to pass them by weaving and merging. Very dangerous.

Speeders are dangerous too, if they have the fastest car, and have no clue how to handle them properly. My bf has a real fast car, and he drives fast. But I can still be at sleep at 100 mph, as he's trained in track and road and safety.

Drivers who hog the middle or outside lane are a menace, at least the speeder's can speed off & leave me in peace.

PS. I quite like to get up a bit of speed myself when the opportunity arises & it isn't causing anyone else a problem.

While drivers who stay in the middle lane (I assume a 3-lane rd) can be annoying, they are doing nothing wrong and don't really present a hazard. The only hazard would be the other cars around them. Statistically, the speeding driver is the most dangerous. and realistically speaking, speeders are dangerous. They take unnecessary chances, they are impatient, and therefore, dangerous. I have no problem with someone going a little over the limit. Most people do, including me. But if someone is driving at the speed limit, they don't bother me at all.

I've been very guilty of being number 1, and I've since become number 2 since the price of gas forced a change to my driving habits.

It's clear to me (I commute 500 miles a week) that number 1 is the most dangerous. Weaving in and out of traffic, assuming that people know what you are planning to do next.

What would be the most adventageous, albiet impossible to achieve is if everyone would set their cruise control and stick to the same speed. You get where you want to go faster because traffic flows smoother and you get the best gas mileage when you aren't speeding up and slowing down.

The people who drive slower than the speed limit are just as bad as the ones who drive to fast IMHO.

I'm neither I don't think I am, though sometimes I'm a speeder, when I think I have to be somewhere and I'm usually late getting there. But, I try to drive safely, and not speed or get in another accident, because if I do then my liscense will be taken away for 3 months.

i think your answers are crap. the real problem on the motorway are lorry drivers who change lane every 10 seconds and just swerve into you. people who drive mini's are the worst, they think there in a ferrari and they do 100mph. if the motorways were full of 2cv's then the world will be a much safer place.
