my cousin is over there and i want to know how long he will have to stay over there

There is no set time. It depends on his specific unit.

usually marines stay there 7 months, but about 2 weeks ago, the Department of Defense changed it to 1 year

Standard deployment in Iraq is 12 months. That can change if the Dept. of Defense deems it necessary. For instance, the "surge" in troop levels that is now in the news will entail holding troops for longer than their initial deployment and send others sooner. Deployments can last 18 months or even two full years.

most marines do 9months give or take, then go back a few times, in any 4 year enlistment.
i did a few 9-10 month tours in afghanistan but i've been out for a year, it could have changed.

depending on the demand of the job its 8 to 12 months. Usually. I got home after 11 months. My bro is still there after 2 years, but he re-upped. Hope it helps

usually for one yr unless they get extended. I am in Iraq and have been here almost 3yrs.
