It's always amazing to read the thoughts of atheists. They actually do think that they have a handle on the big picture, when in truth they turn their backs on the very premise for which they stand, which is rationalism, logic and physical evidence. The theory of evolution ruptures at its very core on each one of these categories. They often ridicule the study of Theology without knowing even the basics of its core teachings. If a biblical scholar critiques a work on evolutionary theory, he is automatically dubbed as not being qualified to do so, but when the table is turned, then the atheist/scientist is more than qualified to debunk the bible and its teachings. Evolution is and has always been bad science. The theory is seriously flawed and should have never been placed within the ranks of good science.
I said all that to say that it is of no surprise to me that more and more people in the U.S. and around the world are becoming atheistic, simply because they have swallowed the big lie of evolution. Evolution is really for people who cannot see the jungle for the trees. The bible says "every seed after its own kind", and that is what every generation has experienced and will always experience. Despite everything else that comes into play within the evolution vs. creation debate, that my friend carries the most weight.
It is also interesting to note that science books have to be constantly revised for huge errors within a previous hypothesis of a given work, whereas the bible never has to be revised to proclaim its truth. As the bible well points out..."Let God be true and every man a liar'. Also, "The fool hath said in his heart there is no God."

Something doesn't add up here. The church keeps saying that God is everywhere. If that's so, how can anyone turn his back to him ? No matter which way you turn God is there.
Civilizations come and go- - - what's your point ?
The Sunday school teacher knows he's a fool, So what ?
I'm stumped on that sun crashing quote. What's the point ?
Your preacher is goofy. Evolution is not thin air. Tell your preacher to read up on any subject before rediculing it.
Your Professor didn't say that Atheists average IQ's far over the general population, and even farther over die-hard believers.
But why does this bother you, can't you just keep on reading your fairy tale book and let others do as they please ?

It's funny that none of these famous people has a name. Did our historian forget that Jerusalem fell? Twice? And was he even talking about God? America IS in danger of falling, but it's not from atheism. It's from militant fundamentalists and evengelicals driving out scientific inquiry from our classrooms, news sources and legislative bodies.
Our novelist apparently is not even aware of Newtonian mechanics or the Heliocentric theory. The anonymous pastor and theologian are both unaware of the fallacy of inductive reasoning. And the "Sunday Teacher" is stating the obvious, applicable to believers and non-believers alike.
America is not turning "her" back on "God". Determined "Christians" are attempting to hijack the Christian message to coincide with their agenda of classism, imperialism and mindless consumerism. And those Americans who haven't already capitulated are fighting back.

As a practicing Wiccan, I never turn my back on God or the Goddess. I pray twice a day, I do a ritual once a week to them, and sometimes I do ritual to honor them twice a month.
I have not turned my back on God and I am an American. I believe that ALL Gods are one God. I just happen to add a Goddess into the equation.

America has not turned her back on GOD, just refuses to look GOD in the eye. That's usually how liars and unfaithful people behave.
A lot of people follow, believe and love GOD. But you see where the love of GOD is placed in the country, on the money.
Too many people believing in their own ability and wealth as oppose to accepting that all comes from and belongs to GOD.

"This is country is more than 80% Christian. It has one of the lowest percentages of people in the world who accept evolution. Over half the country thinks that Intelligent Design is a legitimate scientific theory."
And these are all good things? I think that's about the scariest thing I've read since The Stand was published.

agneisq: I didn't say they were good, I'm just saying that it's ridiculous to claim that "America has turned her back on God" when the VAST majority of people in this country are Christians (and it's not even close).

I only wish America did, then we could use rational thought instead of belief in magic. But, unfortunately, America has the highest rate of believers at 90%+ compared to other industrialized nations. We also have the highest prison population, the most gun crimes, the highest drug usage, and the most idiotic students. It makes sense that we would have the highest percentage of religious people as well.
