Don't bother with Clairol or Loreal or any of the other ones.
Use Superdrugs own make.
My wife used the Chocolate Brown dye to cover her highlights as she wanted a change.
It's fantastic and left her hair in gorgeous condition.
The best bit?....... £2.99!

I've used Revlon before and it worked great. It only costs $2.97 at Walmart and comes in lots of great colors. It says on the box that it's formulated to leave your hair in better condition. Keep in mind that hair dye always dyes your hair one color darker than the actual color on the box. So, if you want a true chocolate brown, don't go any darker than "dark brown". There are some colors saying, "soft black", but stay away from that because it's really a true black. Chocolate brown sounds yummy and she's hit the trendy nail right on the head. Dark brunette tresses are all the rage now.

If you go to dark it will look fake. I would try one of the products at the store that have the 3 dimensional color. Choose one that doesn't have many red tones. If you choose one that is a lighter brown in color you can always choose the next darker shade if any mistakes happen. Always do a strand test and that is you best way of telling. Take a small snip of hair from the back where no one can see it. That will tell you what your end results will look like and how long to keep it on. Try to have someone help you apply the color, so you can make sure you have even coverage. If you don't have anyone, after application, comb through hair and look through a hand mirror in a bigger mirror to assure all sides and back have even coverage.

Whatever you decide do a skin test first as the chemicals in permenent colour can cause serious irritation to the extent of severe pain and discomfort. As a hairdresser I use majorel as a permenent or diacolour for long lasting semi. these do require profeessional application though as the strenght of the peroxide has an effect on the result.

Hi there,
I think the best are Garnier Nutrisse, and Castings Creme Gloss.
The Iced Chocolate is a gorgeous colour in the Castings range if you want to go quite dark.
I have been using Nutrisse and Castings for a while now, and they keep my hair shiny and in good condition despite the fact that it's very fine and I straighten it daily.
Good luck!

Since going grey at a very early age i tend to use whichever permanent hair dye is currently on offer. Having tried nearly everyone out there i can reassure you that they are all pretty much alike, with no particular brand standing out as the best. Love the colour choice though!
Happy dying!

If this is the first time your dyeing your hair it is best to go to a salon. Otherwise Clairol is the best, hands down. When you apply any dye, just make sure you don't apply it directly to the scalp, wear gloves, and follow the timing directions precisely.

Herbal essences - lots of really rich brown shades, they dont use ammonia so it smells yummy and is really kind to your hair!
Garnier Nutrisse has a good selection of shades too

If your not too bothered about using a colour with ammonia then nearly all the brands do nice chocolate browns! Have a look and see which you prefer!

I agree with Rosepetal, Revlon works very well and is Ammonia-free which ammonia is very damaging to your hair. My hair does actually feel softer after I dye it. The cheap price is is also of course a plus.
