wouldn't bother with hd dvds, blu ray discs are almost here, and they are much better! blu ray players are really expense, but PS3 has a integral player built in, out in march but prob not get one 'til june or july due to demand.
hope this helps

Implementing an HDTV standard required federal government mandate, and we know how long that usually takes to get considered, much less implemented. So I don't see any new technology over the horizon in the near future to scuttle that.

The HD DVD vs BluRay battle will be rendered moot once two things happen: movie distributors start selling prerecorded material in both formats on the same disc, and DVD manufacturers produce players that read both HD DVD and BluRay, such as LG's product just unveiled at CES.

I think it's still a bit pricey for my tastes, so I suppose it depends on how desperate you are for HD viewing. If you want it now, it's money well-spent. Wait until later, it's money better-spent.

ANF is speaking garbage. you do not pick a particular aerial to receive digital Freeview television. you in consumer-friendly words pick a good one - maximum indoor aerials are literally not good for Freeview. it truly is in consumer-friendly words because the transmitted signal skill is weaker than analogue television. which will change by way of the end of 2012. There are basically some HD channels on Freeview as we communicate, about 4. they're in consumer-friendly words duplicates of the ordinary channels besides. A Freeview HD container expenses over £80, some are over £one hundred. you may ponder no matter if it truly is extremely well worth the money. It received't upscale modern non-HD (ordinary definition) Freeview channels because it isn't achieveable to operate in image ingredient that wasn't being transmitted contained in the first position.

The HD format is still relatively new and expensive - though prices are dropping fast. If you can wait a while for the technology to be perfected and costs to drop, that would be best. You would need to purchase a HDTV by 2009 since there is a federal mandate to switch to all digital signals by then.
