Ok im getting my tattoo in 5 days when i turn 18, i made the design, and picked the colors i decided i really want this.Im getting it on my lower back and the star will be right above my butt but when i have on pants it will be hidden and im getting clusters of stars on the side that wing out like angel wings & it goes out to my side but not past that but goes above my pants & i was wondering how much it will hurt for people that have a tattoo on their lower back. I know pain can feel different to people but i take it pretty well i have my monroe, industrial, tragus, belly button, cartilage,& 6 lobe piercings. What did you feel through the whole time you were getting tattooed?Did you cry or have any tears?Im more anxious about my tattoo after i get it finished i can't wait to see how it looks!please give me any helpful information you have about your tattoo, what you did for the healing process, how much it hurt, what you got for your tattoo.thank you so much im so excited

first of all, congratulations for getting your first tattoo! especially designed by yourself. originality rocks.
the star that you're gonna get in the middle on your lower back will hurt most because of your spine. the needle will be closer to the bones and it will hurt more than other parts. what hurts most is the outline. as soon as the outline is done, they should give you about 5 mins break then do the coloring, which will hurt less.the sides hurts least. i've never seen anybody cry when getting a tattoo done. its painful, but surely bareable.
when its done, you should apply, *i recommend* a thin layer of vaseline because it will protect your tattoo from getting infected.do not wash with soap!!wash with plain water only! try not to touch it till it gets flakey and let the scabs fall off.
other than that, get an anticeptic cream and apply as often as you can daily.
good luck

As you said, pain is relevant. To me, tattoos feel like when you scrape your knee on the ground, except that the feeling continues for hours (until the tattoo is done) instead of a couple of seconds. Since each of my tattoos means something to me, i put up with the pain. My sister on the other hand, does quite well with tattoos and claims not to feel the pain.
The healing process is another story. I itch like there's no tomorrow, and no matter how much I pat, it doesn't go away. The good thing is that I heal fast and don't scab, preserving the work done.
The best piece of advice is make sure that what you are getting is truly what you want. There is nothing worse than regretting your tattoo a couple of years later. Get the best artist you can, as that can make a difference.
Best of luck.
Not that it matters, but yes, that is my pic on the avatar.

I got my first tattoo on my lower back and it was as bad as I expected. The outline was the worst and the coloring in was almost painless because I was numb. It took two hours to do mine. On the lower spine and the outer edges were the worst. My lower spine actually felt bruised for a few days.
I walked around with loose pants falling down on me and my shirt held up the first few days to keep my clothes off the tattoo and that was worse than the pain. I slept without laying on my back and the itching was annoying as hell.
But the finished product is worth it.
I didn't cry but I did wimper and groan a few times. And my legs shook uncontrollably sometimes, but I made it. And don't listen to the people that say the lower back is overdone or that its a tramp stamp. Basically everything is overdone except maybe a penis tattoo or tattoos inside your mouth. Originality is what makes them great, not the location. Our bodies are only so big afterall. And the back is easy to hide and easy to show.

Well when I decided to get my tattoo I had drawn out a frog sitting on a mushroom holding a daisy, you know like you would see on one of those stickers. It was really colorful and I gave it to the guy to take to his wife that was going to do the tattoo. When I got there they could not fin the drawing so I went with a tropical tree frog climbing up my back on the right side instead. It starts at the top of my butt and goes up to my waist. I am not going to lie, yes it hurt like crazy when she was doing the outline, but not bad enough to make me cry. I took a friend with me and I would squeeze her hand if it hurt too bad. I have bad nerve endings though so I always have pain in my lower back and legs around the siatic nerve. It will probably not be as bad for you. When she was doing the outline it felt like I was being cut with a scapel in places and then in other places it did not hurt at all or felt like I was getting a shot. The dtailed places were worse I think. It will also depend on how thick your outline has to be as to how much it hurts. The needle pack she used for my outline had four round needles. Some outlines take more needle at one time or they are bigger. The reason it hurts more for the outline is it goes deeper than the color. Although none of it is really deep it is just under the top layer of skin. When she did my coloring in I did not hurt at all it actually tickled some in places.
When I got ready to leave she gave me an ointment like biofreeze or something to put on it. Also she said to keep it moist with a good lotion and don't peel off the scab let it flake on it's own. My tatto did not flake up though and healed very quickly.
Don't worry you will do just fine as long as you are going to someone that is good at doing tattoos. The lady that did mine is also a registered nurse.
good luck and have fun.

My tat on my lower back hurt especailly when it was on the spine and when it winged out towards my sides! Im not going to lie they hurt... The scale of pain depends on your tolerance! I have piercings and tattoos and I dont find them excrusiating! I will say that it is a new feeling and almost quite irritating! Eventually the areas will numb out a little which will make it more tolerable! Research the shop properly, the artist, their portfolio, their experience, their sanitation! Im telling you this because my lower tat is all scar tissue from solid dark ink... Basically the guy went over the same spots too many times and too deep! Be weary of your artist this is going to be with you for life! Best of luck! Im sure you'll do fine!
PS... Yeah everyone calls it a tramp stamp but who cares! The location of ones tattoo does not classify who they are as a person or their sexuality... People are ignorant It is your artistic expression... place it where you desire!
Yes they will let you take a break but they usually dont recommend it because once you take that break its like starting the pain all over again because the numbing affect fades! The vibration from the gun irritated me more than the pain... Oh and the way I had to sit I couldnt feel my legs when he was done!
DO NOT use vaseline... It is petroleum base and wont let your new wound breath! Tat artists recommend Tattoo Goo (waste of money) skip that and get Curel! Wash with Dial antibacterial liquid soap... and do not apply an antiseptic cream! Curel Lotion and Dial antibacterial soap is all you need!
Ive decided my tattoo is lame and I regret it (especailly the scars). I was young and dumb and went with something less creative that alot of people have! Drawing up your own design is best bet or working closely with the artist to complete your piece!

well you are right everyone is different so the pain is different but when I got my lower back tattoo it wasn't all that bad the worst part is the outline and if it has a lot of detail that could be a little more painful, color usually doesn't hurt at all but thats my opinion I have never been in much pain from a tattoo I love pain so it doesn't really phase me, also if you need a break you can just ask and most artists will let u have a few minutes

1) I have three tattoos. One on my forearm, didn't hurt at all. It is a delicate and intricate cross.
2) I have one on my hip that i designed and drew. It is a like a star, but longer in length like a cross. It is black and skin and on the pointed ends are numbers of the years my gramma and grandpa died from cancer. This was did not hurt but was uncomfortable as it was over my hip bone (i am skinny) and my hip was rattling the entire time. Just and akward feeling.
3) I have one on my lower back that I drew of a pendent from a necklace I was given that means much to me. I thought this one would hurt but I did not. It took a while to tattoo it on me because it was tickling me so much. That was the hardest one for me to sit through! haha.
But you know what, I hate needles so much but getting a tattoo is completely different and feels different too.
Good Luck
Also, people about the tramp stamp arent always right. The only person whoever sees mine is my husbands and it is not a skanky tattoo. I made it myself.

I have a tattoo on my lower back that I got 7 months ago. I didn't experience a lot of pain...but the outlining for it hurt the most, especially on the spine! Then the coloring in was a breeze to get through! Best of Luck!

i have a very large tribal tattoo that covers my whole lower back. it took about 3 hours to complete. i won't tell you that it's not painful cause i would be lying, but it does not bring tears or anything. the outline hurts the worst, it made my whole body tighten up. after you been sitting there being tattood for an 45-60 minutes the area will go numb and you will barely feel it. honestly the worst part will be the next day when your pants rub against the tatt, that hurts like hell. good luck
