Spinning back kicks, roundhouse, you name it. I'm not as flexible as I used to be, so what can I do to improve my legs ability to strike as high as my head and with a powerful force as well?

Good solid stretching.

Yoga actually helps out alot.

Also partner assisted stretching and AIS (active Isolated Stretching) are best.

AIS stretching and you can look up information on how to do it, is a way of tricking your body out of the stretching reflex.

In a nutshell, you would take a stretch to the maximum limit for 2 or 3 seconds, relax and then immediately go right back. (Having a partner for this is the best way) and you will find that you can stretch a bit further, then hold that stretch for 20 or so seconds.

There are a ton of books and information out there on this subject.

Yoga, AIS or Partner assisted stretches, and actually kicking the pads is the best way to get it done.

Hope that helps.

any kind of stretching that takes the body through a range of motion and doesn't hold the stretch will give you more functional flexibilty.

functional flexibilty means you don't always have to "warm up" before you feel flexible. the muscles will eventually become like a well worn rubber band; maintaining their shape but very easily stretched to their utmost with minimal "warm up".

stretching, anything after 30 seconds on a stretch is just wasted time. Thats what yoga is, a big fat waste of time.

If you did a complex stretching routine every day you would get the same results as yoga in less time.

i agree with the guys.. stretching is the key to maximum flexibility.. i'd also suggest yoga.. it offers mma fighters a great training suppliment, it maintains flexibility and helps with focus and relaxation.. it worked for my hubby's pal diego and now look where he's at!
