Well, I would try going to a different salon and getting a darker color than blonde because since red is darker than blonde the red is bound to show [like it did]. If you dont want to risk it again just get your natural hair color but if you dont like it then go a shade darker or lighter.

Did you just dye it blonde (meaning you just used permanent dye) or did you actually bleach the hair?
If you just fyed the blond the easiest way to take care of this is by dying it back to a red (one shade darker than your own). The reason the shade has to be a little bit darker is that since your roots are whowing up blonde, is that red dye fades (actually, any dye fades) somewhat. This way...the dye on your roots won't fade to blonde again.
Blonde is a cool color (even golden blondes are cooler than redheads) whereas your natural red hair is a warm color so when you lighten your hair, it's very hard to get rid of the warm/reddish tint of your hair.
The best way to do this is actually remove the red pigmentation of your hair by bleaching it.
For now...give your hair a day or two to rest (any chemical processing always damages hair), see if you do a deep conditioning treatment tonight and hopefully use a hat tomorrow to cover up the embarassment (or a cute little scarf). Than after a day or two, go ahead and dye it back to red. This is the best way to "save" your hair and get it as near as it's natural color as possible.
However, if you are still going for the blonde...you can try dying your hair a very light ash brown (ash means cool tone) and maybe getting some highlights. This will give you a more blonde look with minimum bleaching.
Good luck!

Go and see a good hair colourist - otherwise your poor hair will possibly look worse if you do more to it. The professionals know best!

red doesnt strip out so easily. you need to go back over it w/ a lighter brown color and leave it alone, until you can have it done correctly. for one color doesnt lift color. never buy your color from walmart. try a beauty supply store like sally's
