I think it is a form of reverse psychology. Turn the majority into victims and turn the vocal minority into the abuser. You would not believe how many christian I speak with who honestly say they are being persecuted by the liberals and atheists in America (let me see...85% christian 15% non-christian).

Christians who think they're being victimized are the sheep who don't or can't figure things out for themselves. All they do is recite what they're told in church. Saves them from thinking. Christianity has always seen the world negatively -- I love that quote: "I know you're a Christian, but what are you Christian against?"

P.S. "Godless" has the best answer.

I think you are somewhat off on this one. Most Christians are conservative, and most conservatives are Republican. The basis of the Republican agenda is individual accountability (the opposite of being a victim). On the other hand, liberals, who are often Democrats, profess to be looking out for the minorities (or the victims). Liberals are gung-ho to allow illegal immigrants to remain in the country, continuing affirmative action, creating a welfare state (very much claiming some people are just victims), dampening free trade (because of the victims it creates in the US and abroad), etc. It is true that many times in history certain christians have been victims/persecuted. Prime example: Jesus Christ and his Apostles were all executed.

In the Christian faith one is not taught they are a victim, but are empowered to shape their own destiny. That doesn't seem like reverse pshycology to me. They are taught they should help the victim, but this is done regardless of religious belief (or so it should be because that is what Jesus taught).

Maybe you have been a victim of some professed Christian who really wasn't a Christian, and for this I'm sorry, but your statements and allegations are incorrect.

I think the real problem comes into where some people hate God so much they go to ridiculous lengths and incredible rudeness to those who do. I have also seen the reverse. As a Christian, God calls me to give an account for the hope that lies within me. If you want to hear about it, or ask questions about it, I'm going to witness to you. If you do not wish to hear about it, then I will not bother. I find most people can co-exist at least in the worksplace, public, etc. WHen it comes to my family though, and my children, I don't like the government teaching my children philosphies (in lower level grades) that go against the moral choices I have made for my family. When my children are older (high school and college), they will have that opportunity then to have their own choices and consequences.

Regarding political arena, I don't see it as hate for someone to support liberal ideas. This country was founded on that principal. On the same token, I plan to support those whose political views match my own beliefs.

there is never an excuse for rudeness and violence on either camp.

The True Christian Faith is indeed under constant assault... not just in US...this has been the case from the begining of The Church.... FYI: The actual number of True Christians world wide is probably not even 15%... and even in the US probably not more than 15%... There are far more who claim to be christian than actualy are... many are just thinking they are because they have always been told they were because their parents were or something... The attacks on the foundations of Law and morality in The US, which are based on Judaio Christian Ethics... not on Christian Doctrin... are clearly under assault and have been erroded to the point that there is no moral base left in this country. As far as the general population goes... The Christian minority is not trying, in any way, to impose Christian"doctrin" upon any one...that would be clearly against the Word of God. What is trying to be salvaged is the founding moral standards that were seen by the founding fathers, and mothers, to be vital to maintaining a free country.

I am not being abused by any non christian. If they don't believe in God/Christianity, that's fine. If someone chooses to call me weak minded, ignorant or uneducated, that's fine. They obviously are making a generalized statement and they don't know me. So, how can I be offended by some stranger's arrogance?

Nope, I do not feel persecuted. I do feel very offended by the persons here who try so hard to outdo each other with the most unspeakable vile thoughts I cannot even imagine human brains could conceive!

As a liberal Christian, I'm not sure which vocal minority you're referring to. Are you actually speaking with these Christians or are you online chatting with other online people that hardly represent the feelings of the whole? Why does this even matter to you? Isn't there anything more important, interesting, or pressing in your life other than a group claiming to be oppressed? Perhaps I'm missing your point.

Wow! There are alot of Christian Haters out there. Why all the hostility? All that Christ wants us to do is tell others about Him. Why don't people want to accept that there is a God? I don't know. Let me say this, If God, Heaven & Hell are not real, so what, what do Christians have to lose? Nothing. But if all of this is real what do non christians have to lose? Everything. Why take a chance? You could spend an eternity in Paradise(Heaven) or Torment(Hell). Good Luck for yaw, I hope it turns out good for you in the end. Peace

How weird they think they are being persecuted... We speak up for our civil liberties and God forbid you tell the TRUTH about something and suddenly you are the bad guy who romps around with the devil... And NOT all Christians are bad... it is the hard core right wing folks who are so busy trying to atone for their own sins they feel the need to dictate to everyone else... Psychologists would call that "projection."

Not all Christians feel that way. Many are thankful for the freedoms and lack of general oppression.
