German Poem Help!?

I'm supposed to translate Heinz Erhardt's "Ein Weihnachtslied" in my German class - i was wondering if someone could help me with their own translated version - i would GREATLY appreciate it ^_^

Ein Weihnachtslied

Es ist Weihnachten geworden.
Kalter Wind bläst aus dem Norden
und hat Eis und Schnee gebracht.

Doch am Weihnachtsbaum die Kerzen,
die erwärmen unsre Herzen,
und des Kindes Auge lacht.

Und man sieht auf den verschneiten
Straßen weiße Engel schreiten
durch die stille, heil’ge Nacht.

First, here's a literal translation:

Christmas has arrived.
Cold wind blows from the north
and has brought ice and snow.

But on the christmas tree, the candles,
they put warmth in our hearts,
and the child's eye laughs.

And you see, on the snow covered
streets, white angels stride
through the silent, holy night.

Next, we could ponder how to catch the "style" of the poem. Heinz Erhardt was a famous German comedian and loved to play with words and rhythm. If we try to translate at least rhythm and rhyme we have to give up a bit of the literal translation, of course:

Finally, it's christmas night.
From the north the windstorms blow,
filled the world with ice and snow.

The candles on the christmas tree
put warmth and love in you and me,
and fill child faces with delight.

And on the snow-covered street
with stately strides white angels meet
in the silent, holy night.

You get the idea ... In fact, Erhardt was a genius with words and to appreciate him you need to know German, of course.
