I am a teacher. My assistant is a young female who the men all flock to. They constantly come to check her out and talk to her. One of these guys is nice, but he tries to hard. He recently told her that he was taking out to dinner and a movie. She said ok because she really didn't think it would lead him on and she doesn't like him like that. What can she do without hurting his feelings?

Inform him from the get-go that she doesn't want to be in a relationship at this time and can only be a friend to him. And he can take it or leave it.

Gary, a woman can always say, "No, thank you." No further explanation is required.

If you thinks she lacks the self confidence to turn away unwanted attention, you might ask her if she understands the sexual harassment policy of your school and assure her that the administration will handle the problem for her if she is being made uncomfortable. School should never be a hostile or difficult environment.

Just tell him that there is no chemistry between them. Usually when a woman says that, they get the hint or say that she thinks of him as a brother. Another way to cut him lose. That is if she hasn't told him straight out that she is not interested

Why is it any of your business? As her employer, you should not get involved with these things, except to caution her if her behavior is inappropriate in the work place. Plus, this sounds like a pile of bull... you're a man, why can't you answer this yourself?

She can learn to get a backbone, and learn the phrase "No, thank you, I'm busy."

If she has this response no matter what time/date is offered, the asker should get the message. If not, leave off the "busy" part.

All she has to do is say "no thank you". It's that easy...no explanation required but if he persists and she feels compelled to give one, she should just tell him she's not interested. Honesty is the way to go.
