Beat'em to their knees and then kick'em.
Like we did Germany and Japan, they haven't caused any problems in 60 years.

Military force is a tool of statecraft not the other way around. Lasting peace cannot be won through force of arms alone. Look at Germany as an example. Germany got utterly smashed in WWI and the European powers smacked them with some outrageous peace terms that they had no choice but to accept. What happened? A short time later this little guy with a funny mustache used those very same peace accords as a rallying point and led us all into WWII. We defeated Japan at the end of that war and then spent a huge sum of money to revitalize their economy, rebuild their nation, and bring relief to their suffering people. We did the same thing in Germany. The result is considerably different and today these two nations are allies and not enemies.
Another part of the problem is look at the enemies we are fighting today. We are not fighting nations. We are fighting ideologies. You cannot kill an idea with a gun. You can only make it stronger. The insurgents of Iraq and Afghanistan, the militias in Somalia, the terrorists around the world are not fighting for a piece of land that we can take away and then give back once they agree to play nice with the other kids. They are fighting for a belief system and a way of life that is just as important to them as ours is to us, no matter how foreign it might be to our way of thinking.
I am not saying that we shouldn't be fighting. Quite the opposite, history has shown us that we need a combined approach to resolving these conflicts. You need military force to ensure stability and accountability of the government and to protect the common people from the fear that is our opponent's only really successful weapon. Then you need diplomacy, education, and understanding to bring not only the leaders but the common people around to your way of thinking or to at least the point where they understand that there is more to be gained by peace then by violence. Finally, you need to provide the time and support for the people you have been working with to grow strong enough and comfortable enough to stand on their own against these opponents and to continue to police themselves in the future.
Military force is only one tool in the bag and it must be used properly by people who know how to use it right. Diplomacy alone won't get it done. Economic sanctions by themselves will not make lasting changes. A government must use all of the tools at their disposal at the right time and in the appropriate manner. After all, a surgeon doesn't use only one scalpel for every operation. Use the right tool for the right job.

Maybe...
Then again, if they took the same approach (you wanting to destroy them) them they would be fully justified to attack you.
If everyone thought like that the world would be at constant war (I mean more so than it already is)
All human beings are human beings, it doesn't matter what country they come from. If we just killed every1 who disagreed with us, there would be no point civilisation at all.
How would you feel if Britain decided to destroy America because our government disagreed with your government, kill every man, woman and child in the United States.
Not nice to think about is it??

The same reason why they should put up with us, would you like it if your country was wiped. We are humans, different in some ways but we are all still the same in many more.

THE PEOPLE OF SOMALIA ARE NOT OUR ENEMY IT'S THE ISLAMIC INSURGENCE IN SOMALIA THAT WE ARE FIGHTING ALONG SIDE THE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED GOVERNMENT OF SOMALIA AND THE ETHIOPIANS GOVERNMENT. THE KID GLOVES HAVE TO COME OFF AND WE NEED TO DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE ACCORDINGLY.

Nah, the eurofag approach is much better. Allow them to flood into our country, drain our financial coffers, and hug them to death in an attempt to understand and empathize with their plight... maybe that way they won't bomb our subways and trains...
Yeah... how's THAT working out for them?
