I came to the realization that there were things in my life that Jesus didn't like so I laid all of those things on the altar.

It's actually considered an ordinance in my religion that happens just after the baptism by water.
Someone with Priesthood authority blesses the newly baptized person to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (which of course you have to live right to be able to continuously have).
I think it's often refereed to as fire, because in our feeble, best ways to describe what feeling the spirit is like the word "warm" often comes up. Other ways that I can describe how it feels is peace, clarity, enlightenment...I definitely felt those things on my baptism day when I also recieved the gift of the Holy Ghost.
I hope that helps.

I had been asking if this was truth or not, I was taught that speaking in tongues and the gifts were not in operation now. I saw things in other Christians that I, and the denomination that I attended didn't have....so, I started praying that God show me if it was truth. One night I went up front for prayer (at a revival in a Holiness church) It felt as if something from my stomach was coming into my throat and nearly choking me...the preacher man kept praying, I felt the same...then a lady came up to me and said, "when I put this oil on your finger, touch your tongue with it" I did, and when I did, I saw the Lord on the cross, bleeding and I began to speak in an unknown language...a most blessed feeling. There is a strength that comes from being filled with the Holy Ghost. Things that I would battle with before, was no longer a temptation..at all. Strength, I tell you, strength

This is also called baptism by fire, it is when you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, which acts like a conscience to help you through your life choosing right from wrong, as long as you are living life how you should be,

I can't say because there is no such thing as the holy spirit! I once got baptised to get my nagging mother off my back, and it is one of the things I will always be ashamed of. I felt wet, silly and guilty for going through a public ritual of association with a creed I found abhorrent.

I didn't start rattling off a bunch of tongues but I did have an utterance and since then I've developed a prayer language and with that language the Holy Spirit has strengthened me and built me up helping my walk.

My heart was more interested in the needs of others rather then meeting my own needs. The gifts of the spirit were given to me. I had more joy, peace, etc.

I experienced just like what Jesus promised in
John 16:13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own [authority], but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
16:14 "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare [it] to you.
and what happened to the disciples as recorded in Acts 2:6 "And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. "
I was able to understand the Bible and taught them to people in their languages: Sundanese, Indonesian, Malaysian, English, Manadonese, Makassarese, Mandarin and Iban(Sea Dayak) and lead them to the truth and follow all the things commanded by Jesus. Many were converted, comforted and rejoiced in the hope of seeing Jesus coming to end sin, sickness and suffering in the earth made new. I was very happy to witness so many people in so many countries saved and glorified His name.

I felt like electricity was shooting down my arms for some time afterwards. I too did not immediately receive my prayer language. In fact, it's something I still struggle with.
